Robert Clayton McHugh
June 2, 1928 - November 17, 2017
Bob McHugh was born June 2, 1928, in Kansas City, MO to Eugene and Margaret (Higgins) McHugh. The family moved to Colorado Springs in 1935 where Bob attended public school. He graduated from Colorado Springs High School (Palmer) in 1946 as an athlete and scholar. He then attended Northwestern University earning a business administration degree, and then went on to the University of Colorado, earning his J.D., both on full academic scholarships.
Bob met his wife Ruth (Irish), of nearly 68 years at Northwestern. They were married in 1949 in Evanston, IL. He was drafted into the US Army in 1952 and served in the Army Adjutant General's Office. They moved to Colorado Springs in 1954 where Bob went to work as Deputy District Attorney for the 4th Judicial District.
Bob joined Colorado Interstate Gas in 1956, holding many executive positions including President. He retired in 1983 to join KN Energy in Lakewood, CO as Vice Chairman and General Counsel.
After retiring from KN in 1992, Bob and Ruth moved back to Colorado Springs to be near their family. Bob went to work for the Colorado Springs Police Department as a volunteer working on cold case homicides, financial crimes and as a Senior Citizen Advocate. In addition, he served as an Associate Professor of Business at UCCS for many years.
The civic and volunteer organizations Bob served over the years are too many to list, but he gave his talents with a servant's heart.
Bob is survived by his wife Ruth, two children, Steve (Kathy) McHugh and Jennifer (Dan)Taylor; 4 grandchildren, Erin, Kelly and Bobby (Micah) McHugh and Ben Rather. They are also blessed with a great-grandson Payton.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mary Jean Thomas.

Ruth, Jennifer and family. I worked with Bob at CIG and he came to our son John's baptism. He was an exceptional person and many of us "old timers" and others will miss him. We pray that he will down upon us and continue to send us his guidance.

Dear Aunt Ruth,
What always struck me the most about Uncle Bob was his kindness, his active interest and concern, his involvment, his enthusiasm and encouragement whenever we got together.
Of his many, many achievements, I will remember and treasure most those positive feelings and attitudes that I experienced from him. I will miss him. I was so very lucky to have Uncle Bob and you, Aunt Ruth, as examples in my life. Stacey Baird, Davao City, Philippines.

Dear Ruth, Steve and Jennifer,
I was saddened to hear about Bob's passing. I just learned of it today. I have fond memories of the early years with bridge club at our house and Steve attending even my first birthday party. I also was blessed to have Bob as my professor at UCCS for my class in Business Law. The foundation he provided with respect to corporate law stood me in good stead during the years that I was involved in our family business (Ted and Jeanne Malone, Motivational Communications). I hope to see you at the celebration of life on the 13th. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your families. My sister, Molly, is in Coeur d' Alene, ID but I will let her know as well.

Dear Ruth, Steve/Jennifer and family,
So many truly fond memories and wonderful experiences from Bob...as a father figure, as a UCCS professor, as a gifted attorney and corporate officer.
I'm sorry that I've not been in touch with him or any of you since our lunch of several years ago now, but I will treasure that lunch and will keep him and you all in my prayers.
God Bless you all,

Dear Ruth, As I read about Bob's passing I thought back many years and remembered the fun times Bob Gould and I had taking square dance lessons with you two from Dean Edwards. May you find peace our Lord provides.

Dear Ruth and Family: We are sorry to read about Bob's passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and you and your family. In addition to knowing Bob socially, I knew Bob at CIG, KN Energy and many years at UCCS. In addition to being an outstanding family man, he was also a great community leader, outstanding academic and above all a true gentleman. Rest in Peace Bob.
