Kathleen Barker Obituary

Kathleen (Kay) Barker peacefully passed away on January 5, 2013 with her family by her side. Kay was born in Dublin, Ireland - the youngest girl of eight children. Kay was a Printer by trade and first immigrated to the United States in 1961, and later as a military wife in 1967. After military time in Germany and the United States, Kay settled to make her home and raise her children in Colorado. She was a vivacious go-getter who loved to dance and bowl. An avid reader, Kay also frequented the library. She loved to dress up for every holiday! Her most favorite outing and many family memories were made at Helen Hunt Falls. Her grandchildren know her as one to speak her mind, to speak the truth, and to play boxing right alongside of them. Kay is preceded in death by two sisters who died of Scarlet Fever; her father Thomas Leo Murphy; mother Elizabeth (Kelly) Murphy; brother Peter Murphy; sister Mary Theresa (Murphy) White; and brother Patrick William Murphy. Kay is survived by her children: Anita Murphy (James) of Chino Valley, AZ; William David Zeringue, Jr. of Colorado Springs, CO; Sonia Cruz (Stephen) of Mount Hermon, CA; Five grandchildren: Alexsia Lozano (Jorgé) of South San Francisco, CA; Tryston Cruz (16), Logan Cruz (11), Ivan Cruz (4) and Aydria Cruz (1) of Mount Hermon, CA; One great-grandchild: Donovan Lozano (1) of South San Francisco, CA; sister Anne Murphy of Canada; baby-brother Thomas Leo Murphy of England; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Bailey - a silver-back terrier of Mount Hermon, CA. No services will be held for Kathleen. Only the Lord can give us rest from our heavy hearts and the burdens we have there.

Momma, you are missed SO much! So many things coming up that would have you in them, so many things to call and talk about...

Thank you for your scent! Sometimes you bless me with a whiff of you...like this morning. When I woke up and passed your room, I could SMELL you - so, I went in and yes, your scent was everywhere in your room.

I was honored to care for you and thankful for your humbleness. Ivan often reminds me that you've left this world, and Aydria's heart is heavy without her Goodmorning Grandma.

Oh, how I miss you!

May I live a life that would twinkle those Irish eyes!

I miss her so much. I can't even think straight. I love you, Kay, and I miss you so much. Every morning we would talk to each other and go out and have lunch. Mostly, I miss you so much... it's just not the same around here without you. I miss our daily talks.

I only met Kay briefly and did not know her well but I could tell she was full of passion and life and I know she will truly be missed. She was loved deeply by her family and my thoughts and prayers go out to them. I'm very thankful that she was surrounded by family and passed peacefully. This does bring great sadness but with time, the pain will lessen and wonderful, amazing memories will once again flood your heart.

Kay never hesitated to let me and Sonia know when we were getting on her nerves! She was a fiery tempered but caring mom who left too soon. I'm so sorry Anita, Billy and Sonia for your loss. I hope that your sadness soon gives way to memories of the amazing woman your mother was and the time you had with her.

We rode our bikes to your favorite sunny spot, today. You should've seen Billy - he almost collapsed. Then he dragged his feet 1/2 way down the hill because he realized he didn't have any brakes. I almost fell off my bike laughing. Then we met a Psycho Dog - she's so crazy she could be Bailey's girlfriend.

Missing you, Momma...
