Louise Parker Obituary

Louise VanSchooten Parker, 93, passed into eternity on April 14, 2013 in Denver, Colorado. She was born in Roca, Nebraska on November 23, 1919 to Dutch immigrant parents, Walter and Alberdena VanSchooten. Her family relocated to Colorado when she was a young child, and she grew up on a ranch near Eads in Kiowa County. She taught school in La Junta, Colorado before completing her Bachelors and Masters degrees at what is now the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. Louise served with the American Red Cross in the Philippines before WWII, and in Europe after WWII with Special Services. While in Europe she met her future husband Cpt. Braxton Parker, and they were married on April 17, 1949. Her military travels took her to Washington State, South Carolina and then to Colorado Springs where Capt. Parker retired from active duty at Ft. Carson. The Parkers settled in Colorado Springs to raise their 3 children, Judy, Gary and Patty. Louise worked in the Harrison School District #2 as a teacher and later as a librarian at Gorman Jr. High School, retiring in 1984. She moved to Kansas after retiring, and recently returned to Colorado. Louise enjoyed reading, gardening, home remodeling, embroidery and traveling. She was preceded in death by her husband Braxton; her parents; her brother Edgar and sister Dorothy Rose; and daughter Shiloh Lightfoot (Patty.) Survivors include daughter Judy (Elaine) and son Gary (Kim); 5 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and 6 granddogs. Visitation will be at 10 AM with Funeral Services at 11 AM on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Evergreen Funeral Home, 1830 Fountain Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO, with burial to follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the American Red Cross, 444 Sherman St, Denver, CO 80203.
