Reverend A. Eugene Rushing died peacefully on June 6, 2013 at Vi at Highlands Ranch. He was surrounded that day by many people who loved and cared for him, including both his daughters. Gene was born July 2, 1930 in El Dorado, Arkansas. His parents, Albert Aiken Rushing and Hazel Sorrells Rushing, preceded him in death as did one brother, William Miller Rushing. He was a graduate of Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas and Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. It was there he met and married his wife of 46 years, Audrey Clark Rushing. Audrey preceded him in death in 2004. Following that, he completed three years of Clinical Pastoral Education at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. In the years prior to his arrival at Trinity United Methodist in Colorado Springs, he served as Minister of Education at several churches in the Rocky Mountain United Methodist Conference: First United Methodist Churches in Greeley, Fort Collins and Grand Junction and, then, at University Park United Methodist Church in Denver. Following his retirement he worked as a chaplain for Pikes Peak Hospice until 2005. He was also a dedicated volunteer with the West Side Cares Food Pantry program. Reverend Rushing was a minister at First United Methodist Church in Colorado Springs in 1995. I remember him as having the gift of comforting those who were in pain from the loss of a loved one. He was with our family as my father, Ogden Kidd Jr. passed away. His words and his loving ways helped me through a very tough time. I will celebrate his life and cherish the memories forever.

I don't know where to begin. Besides being our Pastor, he married Lee and I, baptized both of our girls, he was also our neighbor and friend. You are now with Audrey and will forever be remembered as my favorite Pastor at Trinity.

Laura & Beth, I share in the your loss of your Dad. I remember Gene asking me to read scripture for morning worship on several occasions at TUMC. I had to ask him how to pronounces the Biblical names because they didn't roll off my tongue very well. I learned of your family through letters and conversations with my mom when you lived in Fort Collins. May you feel the caring & love of friends and family in the days ahead. May God give you peace especially at this time.
