Oscar Goeben Obituary

Oscar Edward Goeben (Col. U.S. Army Ret.), a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away January 2, 2013. He was a devout Catholic, born in Green Bay, Wisconsin on February 4, 1932. As an extensive world traveler, he experienced Europe, the Far East, Pacific and 49 U.S. States. He was an especially avid Bridge player, and sports fan - especially the Green Bay Packers. Oscar attended St. Norbert's College obtaining a B.A., and graduating Magna Cum Laude. He was a member of the R.O.T.C. & Order of the Golden Knights. He also attended the University of Northern Colorado and obtained his M.B.A. as a C.P.A. He provided thirty-seven years of military and civilian service with the U.S. Army-Finance Corp as Comptroller. He was a lifelong member of the Military Officers Association, a member of World Affairs Council and of St. Paul's parish. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Elfriede M. Goeben; daughters: Barbara Ann Goeben of Edwardsville, Illinois, Trudie (Phil) Layton of Woodland Park, Colorado, Dottie Watkins of Colorado Springs, Colorado; son, William A. Von Goeben of Colorado Springs, Colorado; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 4, 2013 at Shrine of Remembrance "America the Beautiful" Chapel followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. also in the Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at St. Paul Catholic Church, 9 El Pomar Road. A graveside service will be on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at 10:15 a.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado. Donations may be made in Oscar's name to Myasthenia Gravis Foundation, www.myasthemia.org or to Pauline Memorial Catholic School, Colorado Springs, CO in lieu of flowers.
