Lieutenant Colonel DeLuca, 92, passed away on November 18th, of natural causes. Harold was born in Portsmouth, Ohio, to Joseph and Rosa DeLuca on November 26, 1919. Colonel DeLuca enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1941. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in 1943 and served with the 9th Troop Carrier Command in England and France during WWII. He was recalled to active duty in 1951. Most of Harold's career was with the Strategic Air Command. He served as an air-crew member for five years and then in staff positions at every level of the command. His last assignment was with the Security Command as Deputy Commander of San Vito Air Base in Southern Italy. He retired in 1972. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Jessie, his twin daughters Bonnie Dalbey and Barbara Tillman, his son Colonel (ret.) Russell DeLuca, 5 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. The family would like to express its gratitude to Doctors William Chambers, Paul DeCarolis, Brian Metz and Richard Ducharme for their professional care during Harold's successful battle with leukemia and to Pikes Peak Hospice for their loving attention this fall. There will be a Memorial Service at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2318 N. Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO, at 11:00 a.m. on the 1st of December to celebrate the life of this loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and true American Hero of the "Greatest Generation".
