The only child of George and Bessie Miles, he lived in Colorado, Wyoming and California and graduated from Stanford University in Chemical Engineering in 1936. He married Mary Elizabeth Billiou in 1942 and they were together for 69 wonderful years. He was a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force serving in World War II in Europe and North Africa, and awarded the Bronze Star. He was Senior Vice President at Holly Sugar where he worked for 40 years before retiring in 1977. George lived in Colorado Springs for 48 years. As an active member of his community, he served as Chairman of Board of Directors St. Francis Hospital and President of the Pikes Peak Council of Boy Scouts where he received the Silver Beaver award. He was a Life Member of the VFW, Elks and Retired Officers Association, an RNC member and Multiple Paul Harris Fellow on Rotary International. He also served as President of the Salinas Valley Chamber of Commerce in California. He helped build two churches; St. Joseph's in Spreckels, California and Holy Trinity in Colorado Springs. He loved fly fishing, playing bridge and was an avid golfer at the Colorado Springs Country Club. He is survived by his children: Molly Anne Miles, Dr. George Michael Miles, Julia Theresa (Ray) Grace, Joseph Robert (Barb) Miles, John Wilson (Jean) Miles; four grandchildren: Matt, Lisa (Shawn), Ethan (Maggie) and Kellen (Alisha); six great grandchildren: Brandon, Austin, Colton, Emmarie, Marek and Arianna. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Miles; son-in-law, John Wright; and daughter-in-law, Kathleen Thornell Miles. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 4 at the Shrine of Remembrance "America the Beautiful" Chapel with a reception to follow. Inurnment, Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum.
