Charles Allan "Al" Byers, the son of Kieth and Leora Byers, was born May 3, 1935, in Sheldon, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Spencer, Iowa, where he received his early education. Following high school, in 1957 he received a BS in General Business from The State University of Iowa. Al was also a member of the Sigma Nu National Fraternity a SUI, serving as President of the Fraternity his senior year. Al married Kaye McLarnan on June 22, 1958, in Sioux City, Iowa. During their married life, they lived in the communities of Des Moines, IA; New York, NY and Wellesley, MA before retiring in Monument, CO where they have resided for the past 22 years. Al and Kaye celebrated their 54th anniversary this past year. Al's first job was in advertising with Meredith Publishing Co. (Better Homes & Gardens Magazine). He and Kaye moved from Des Moines, IA to New York, NY and lived there for 4 years. During his forty year career in the investment management business, Al traveled the United States extensively as a sales executive and officer of The Putnam Funds, John Hancock Financial Services, and Waddell & Reed. Over the years, Al was an active church member. He served two 4 year terms on the Church Council at Grace Lutheran Church in Needham, MA. He belonged to First Lutheran Church in Colorado Springs. He was a member of the Monument Hill Kiwanis Club, Evening Shade Masonic Lodge, and Abu Bekr Shrine Temple. He was an avid golfer at Brae Burn Country Club in Newton, MA and Monument Hill Country Club. He proudly had a Hole-in-One!! Al passed away on March 3, 2013 at home at the age of 77 ¾. He is survived by his wife, Kaye of Monument; one son, Mark Byers and his wife Susan of Tulsa, OK; two daughters, Paula, Mrs. Ludwig Vollers of Mercer Island, WA, and Becky, Mrs. Jeff Cavarra of Sacramento, CA; 8 Grandchildren: John, Jenna, and Bobby Byers, Phoebe and Ethan Vollers, and Cole, Alexis and Jacquelyn Cavarra; one sister, Bonnie, Mrs. Cliff Hoover of Spencer, IA; other relatives and many, many friends and associates across the country. He was preceded in death by his parents C. Kieth and Leora Byers. A Memorial Service will be held, 2:00PM, Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at First Lutheran Church, 1515 North Cascade, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
