Virginia L. Button was born on August 28, 1918 in Evanston, Illinois. She was the only child of Ralph C. Lowen and Hildur A. Lowen. She passed away on November 29, 2012. Her daughter was at her side. Virginia graduated from New Trier High School in Evanston and attended Frances Shimer College in Mount Carroll, Illinois. She was a graduate of Moser Business College in Chicago, Illinois. Virginia married the love of her life, William M. Button, on November 15, 1941 at Shove Memorial Chapel on the Campus of Northwestern University. Bill had just enlisted in the Navy and was assigned to the Pearl Harbor Naval Station where the two of them planned to begin their marriage. On December 7, 1941, all of their plans changed and Bill was shipped out to Pearl Harbor on December 31st of that year. Virginia waited patiently for his return and in the fall of 1944 they, at last, began their married life together. Bill attended and graduated from Northwestern University with Virginia typing up all of his papers. During this time they had their only child, Barbara. Virginia was a devoted wife and mother, spectacular housekeeper, cook, and entertainer and had a natural sense of style that showed in her dress and hairstyle every day. She and Bill traveled extensively and always enjoyed their many friendships. But the true light of Virginia's life was her family. Daughter Barbara Harrison (Kenneth), granddaughters Jennifer O'Malley (Jeffrey) and Amy Ruhl (Robert), and great-grandchildren Harrison O'Malley, Hailey O'Malley, Jack Ruhl and William Ruhl brought her joy every day and she shared a close and unique relationship with each one of them. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Hildur Lowen, and her husband of 63 years, Bill. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, her two granddaughters, and her four great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Irma Maley and Brenda Conrad for their years of devoted care for both Bill and Virginia. We would also like to thank the employees at The Village at Skyline Assisted Living and Pikes Peak Hospice for their very special care of Virginia. A memorial service will be held at the Village at Skyline Assisted Living, 2305 Patriot Heights Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80904, on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 1:15pm in the Multipurpose Room. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, c/o Shriner's International, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Florida 33607.
