Dr. O'Neal I know you will forget my slip in memory thinking it was 2018. This goes with my original post remembering, too late, it is 2019 and I already submitted my entry. You would be happy to now I still have all of my teeth at the ripe old age of 68!

Today as I looked at my mail the first thing in the morning, there was your infectious smile greeting me. Somehow the 12th snuck up on me, yet remembering you is always with wonderful thoughts. Looking at the fact that six years have passed seemed startling. Perhaps it is so, because of the legacy you left that lives on in your wonderful family, friends, and patients. You always treated your patients as part of a larger, extended family and that is what endeared you to us. I still have your phone number in my contacts and when I was seeing the person who took your place, I continued to ask Siri to "Call Dr. O'Neal."
I send my love and special thoughts to your family. You are truly one whose legacy lives on in our memories.

I had not seen Kelly for many years. So to find out today of his passing in December, My heart is broke. I called to get in for a tooth that is sore. Living in Highlands Ranch now, I had no idea. I have never had a Dentist treat me the way Kelly did. We were Family when you walked in the door. My Love and Prayers go out to Mrs. O'Neal and the children. I would have been at the service had I known. God Bless you Kelly, You will be missed, Keep Smiling. With Love

Dear Kelly,
For whatever reason, I woke up this morning thinking about my college roommates of 40 years ago. There we were, three teenagers's starting basic training at the United States Air Force Academy, Class of 1977. First, I Googled Otis. He's a doctor in Georgia. Then I Googled you and saw you just died in a plane crash. How tragic. We were only together a few months, yet my memories of you are vivid. Man, you were funny. You're impressions of upperclassmen had us in stitches. You were a leader. After bad days (and we had a few in basic), you convinced me to “stick it out.” As a result, I enjoyed a successful Air Force career. You touched my life; I can only imagine how many other lives you've touched. You're “Flight West” came far too soon. I salute you.

I am grateful to have had the opportunity to know such a great person as Kelly O'Neal. He will be missed. May he forever be remembered for the blessings he brought all of us. I just received the letter in the mail informing me of Dr. O'Neal's passing. I was shocked when I read through the letter! What an inspirational Man he was to talk to. I enjoyed going to the Dentist office because Dr O'Neal and his staff make You feel part of a family. He was a person I always wanted to have more of conversation with but that's hard when your teeth are being worked on and a line waiting after You. I feel very Lucky to have been a Pt of his over the last 7 years. He is a Man that is going to be missed more than words can describe! The last conversation I remember talking with him about flying down to Texas and getting his daughter settled with her new College. My deep condolences to his wife, family, friends and coworkers.

I didn't realize until today that Kelly had made his transition in December.
I truly enjoyed being one of Kelly's patients the last 11 years. He is a gentle soul and was a wise and skilled practitioner of his craft. I trusted him completely.
Kelly, I hope you're enjoying your new wings and will continue to bless your family and friends with the influence of your love and compassion. Only the body is temporary, the soul lives forever.
And thank you for your commitment to all of us in this lifetime. I'm truly saddened our time with you is over, for now, but I know we'll be seeing your gentle smile again some day.

I am thankful for all of the years I was blessed to know you, work with you and laugh with you. I am a better person for having you in my life these last 22 years. You were a wonderful inspiration and an amazing father, husband, brother, son, son in law, friend, confident and dentist but really excelled at being a genuine person. You cared and touched everyone's lives you met and that was your special gift. Your dental staff and extended family of patients are all grieving and thank you for how you brought this unique mixture of people all so close. Thanks for the great memories. So sorry Kathy, Cory , Erin, Conner, Evan and Lainey.

THE HEAVENLY CROWN
A good and pious man died, and as all righteous people before him, he went to Heaven, Paradise. Upon arrival at its gates, he was welcomed by an angel, who after commending him for his good deeds while on earth, placed a plain gold crown upon his head. And the good man was pleased with his reward.
After being in heaven for a while, the man noticed that although everyone there was wearing a crown, they were not all alike. Some strutted proudly, their crowns splendidly encrusted with jewels, adorned with diamonds, rubies and other magnificent stones. Others walked humbly, their crowns simple and unadorned. And the man was puzzled and troubled by this distinction.
So finally, one day he approached an angel, and inquired: “Dear angel, please explain something to me. While on earth, studying the Talmud, I recall learning that when we reach heaven, there will be no distinction. There will be no rich, or poor, healthy or sick. In the house of the Lord, we will all be equals. But here I notice that some of us wear such plain crowns, while others have their crowns so magnificently embellished.”
The angel thought for a while and finally replied: “My good man, it is not heaven who bestows these precious gems. It is the friends and loved ones a person leaves behind on earth who place them there. Everytime someone down below thinks of you, and lovingly recalls your memory, there will appear a jewel in your crown."

He was a outstanding pillar of the community, a father, golfer, health enthusiast, a caring, loving man, his practice, his patients were part of his life and family. He loved to fly and once took me up in his plane just to see my Christmas lights from the air. What an extraordinary man.

What a fantastic man and rare professional Doctor O'Neal was. He always had a smile and greeted each patient by name. Our children felt well at ease in his tender care even during the ouchy stuff. I myself was scheduled for a visit on December 27 but an accidentally cracked tooth brought me into his office just three days before his passing. During two visits that day, we had wonderful conversations about family, the incline, flying and even (ironically) mortality. I was touched by the sincerity of those conversations even as I walked out the door that day. I will cherish them now even more. I firmly believe God works in mysterious ways. I am not sure what brought me to his office unexpectedly that day and if, perhaps, there is some piece of our conversation to which I should pay special attention. Perhaps it was just one last chance to experience the general goodness of genuine soul. He will be dearly missed. PKN

I met Dr. O'Neal when I worked as a Dental Assistant at Peterson AFB back in 1985. He was a special person and it was a pleasure to have met him. While we worked, he always talked of his beautiful wife and their desire to start a family. He took the time to help me understand the dental field and was a great mentor. Even though I haven't seen him since 1986, he left a place in my heart and I never forgot him after all these years. To his family, I am deeply saddened to learn of his passing and will be praying for your beautiful family. He made an impact on a lot of people and God surely has a special place for him in Heaven. My thoughts and rememberances of wonderful Dr. O'Neal go out to his family, friends, and staff. I considered it an honor to be his patient for all of the years he was in practice. My son actually found Dr. O'Neal for us when he was 3 years old and Dr. O'Neal, fresh out of the Air Force did a presentation on dental hygiene for the preschool children at Rockrimmon Children's Center. My son came home that night and said: "I want that dentist," and what followed for all these years was knowing the most extraordinary person I could ever hope to encounter as a health care provider. Thank you Kathy and the rest of the family for sharing Dr. O'Neal with those of us who were fortunate enough to be his patients.
