Jessie James Cross, Jr. was a retired Sergeant First Class in the United States Army. He was born June 3, 1937 in Edwards, Mississippi. He served his country with honor for 24 years (1961-1985) and went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at his home in Colorado Springs.
"J" (as he was often called) was born to the union of Jessie J. Cross, Sr. and Anna Mae Cross-Walker. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Geraldine Cross-Naples and Vearleane Cross Williams, and one brother, James Walker.
Jessie graduated from Bowman High School in Vicksburg, Mississippi and attended classes at Utica Junior College; later in life he achieved an Associates Degree in Mechanics from Pikes Peak Community College. Jessie had a passion for watching sports and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Payne Chapel AME Men's Chorus Brother of Joy and served on the Food Ministry. He will be missed for his rousing sense of humor and his ability to share an amusing story.
He was a proud veteran and while serving in the US Army, Jessie received numerous honors. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Campaign Stars, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for service in Korea, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry and a multiple other accolades.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 54 years, Lula Cross, two sons; Kenneth Cross (Michelle) of Colorado Springs and Ronald Cross of Dayton, Ohio; and two daughters, Sharon Cross-Perot (Terry) of Woodbridge, Virginia and Karen Cross Weatherington (Eddie) of Chesapeake, Virginia and his beloved adopted daughter Sheryl Walker (Cornelius) of Vicksburg, Mississippi. As well as six cherished grandchildren Brandon Cross and Devyn Cross, Lily Cross, Alicia and Alexandra Perot and Zoe Ari Cross Weatherington. Six sisters; Clemenstine Atkinson of Chicago, IL, Susie Parrish, Mary Leftwich, Selma Walker, Helen Walker and Josephine Walker of Compton, CA. Four brothers; Roosevelt Walker of Chicago, IL, Fred Walker Jr. of Jacksonville, IL, LC Walker of South Bend, IN and Lee-Andrew Walker of Houston, TX.
He also leaves a host of cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews to include Don Cross and Norma Kelly and six sisters-in-laws, Mattie Harris, Earlean Wesley, Olivia James, Linda Younger (Rhodell), Thelma Vann (Joe) and brother-in-law Johnnie Gleese, Jr. (Ola).

Sis. Lula, you have my deepest sympathy for the loss of your dear husband.
