David Decker Obituary

Dave Decker, age 60, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1965, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at his home. He had retired after 30 years with Colorado Springs Utilities at the Mesa Water Treatment Plant. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. David Wayne Decker was born on February 10, 1953 in Pulaski, Virginia to the late James R. and Shirley A. (Brown) Decker. He was a 1971 graduate of Harrison High School. He was an avid Rolling Stones fan and a Colorado Rockies fan. He enjoyed music, baseball, time with his family, and especially his grandkids. Dave married Phyllis Oquin on April 14, 1983 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Phyllis survives and lives in Colorado Springs. Dave is also survived by 3 children: Brandi (Matt) Huerta of Fort Morgan, Colorado, Lacey (Sean) Mendes, and Steve Decker; his brother, Joe (Sharon) Decker; and sister, Sherry (Bill) Costain of Colorado Springs. He is also survived by Bud Bryson of Virginia Beach, Virginia. David is survived by his 5 wonderful grandchildren: Chelsee, Rachel, Josiah, Kaia, and Karli, and numerous nieces and nephews. "Big Dave" will be best remembered for his sense of humor; his big booming voice and storytelling always made him the life of the party. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at the Shrine of Remembrance "America the Beautiful" Chapel. A reception will follow at the family's home. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Dave's name may be made to the American Heart Association, 10900-B Stonelake Boulevard, Suite 320, Austin, TX 78759. Online Condolences: ShrineOfRemembrance.com

Memories and Condolences
for David Decker

Not sure what to say?

Dave played Snoopy in, "Your a Good Man Charlie Brown" at Harrison High School. He told great stories with a magic of delivery. As an employee of Colorado Springs Utilities I attended his retirement party because he had my respect. I asked him a couple of years later how he liked retirement and he replied, "I Love It". He made people feel at home and had a great sense of humor.

We will miss you.

Phyllis & Family,
So saddened to hear of Dave's passing. When I lived in the cul-de-sac he helped me get a skunk out of my garage one day! Such a good neighbor. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

To the Decker Family,
I got to know Dave in the Information Technology Dept of Springs Utilities. Dave was a lot of fun to talk to. He did have great stories and love to talk about his family. May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

Dear Decker Family,

I have had the pleasure to work with both Dave and Sherry Decker at CSU. I always enjoyed talking with Dave about his love of baseball especially when he was coaching his son. Just through his words and conversation it was so obvious how much he loved his family. He was a great guy and I am so sad to hear this news.

I just heard today about Dave. Dave was and will always be an important friend in my life. Many laughs, many great conversations about life and politics. He definitely was family and will be sorely missed, but not forgotten. He loved his family and friends and always was great to talk to about anything. We are praying for Phyllis and family as you go through this difficult time.
Love,
Nick and Gina

Dave is the one that trained me in as an operator at the Mesa Plant in 1974. Everything had to be just “so” with conviction and dedication to the water that we were treating. He also was a listening ear with heart felt concern when I lost one of my children. He was really "there" for me like no-one else. He was a great story teller with his on "one of a kind" theatrics thrown in. I really loved this guy and no one has even come close to the friend he really was during our time at Mesa. I am sorry that we lost touch over the years.
Phyllis, please except my sincere condolences to you and your families lost. There is no doubt that he was a great husband, father, grandfather, and friend to the ones he loved and adored.

Dave is the person that broke me in an as operator as the Mesa Plant in 1975. He is also the person that had a listening ear and heart felt sympathy during a very rough time in my life in losing one of my children.
I will always remember Dave for his idea of trying a new idea until it proves itself wrong before changing it and his great ability to tell a good story with theatrics thrown in.
Dave definitely impacted my life in a very positive way. Though I have not had contact with him in years he was a very special individual to me. My heart goes out to Phyllis and his family.
Please except my sincere condolences at this great time of great loss.
