Paul, I am sorry for your loss of your father. I never met him, but I had learned of his time as a POW in the Pacific. Your father was a brave man and I am proud of his service for our country. I have shared his story, as I knew it, with many people. May you find comfort in your memories of your dad.

Ed, You were a friend to him during your Pacific POW years, and then, later, cared for him (my mother's cousin Clarence "Billy" VanRay) after he was injured and died on the Brazil Maru in late January, 1945. You visited Billy's mom and his aunt after the war to share his story with them. My mother, Abbie Joy Stodder Kleppa, only 20 years old at the time, spoke of your kindness and service to Billy all of her years. Thank you for your goodness, your service, your courage. I wish you peaceful rest after a life very well lived.
