F. Dean Lillie, 83, of Niwot passed away April 29, 2018 at Longmont United Hospital.
Dean was born August 13, 1934 in Colorado Springs to Forest C. and Dorothy E. (Vogler) Lillie. He graduated from Colorado Springs High School in 1952 and received a bachelor's degree in 1955 from Colorado State College (University of Northern Colorado Greeley) in Greeley, CO. He obtained a master's degree in 1963 and a doctorate in 1970 from the University of Colorado in Boulder, CO.
On September 6, 1953, Dean married Charlene Evelyn Whale in Colorado Springs. He was a loving husband, wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be sorely missed.
Dean had a thirty-five year career in Colorado higher education administration including serving as Director of the Colorado Community College System and as President of Colorado Mountain College. He retired in June of 1991. Dean lived in Greeley and La Junta 1953-1961, Boulder from 1961-1977, Glenwood Springs 1977-1984, Trinidad 1984-1991, returning to Boulder before finally settling in Niwot in May 1992.
Dean enjoyed reading, watching movies, traveling, golf, athletics and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of several professional, service and civic organizations.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his brother Robert A. Lillie (and his wife Sara), sister Kathleen K. Church, and brother-in-law Vonley Vogt.
Dean is survived by three daughters: Debra W. (Wayne) Fuqua in Boulder, Cristina K. (Mark) Hott in Westminster, and Paige A. Lillie (Ed Murray) in Glenwood Springs; two sisters: Carol Sue Vogt in Berthoud and Sharon G. Gilbert (Dick) in Colorado Springs; three grandchildren: Nathan S. Smith in Boulder, Caitlin E. (Hott) Whitney (Gary) in Thornton, and Zachary M. Hott in Westminster; and two great-grandchildren: Madison Whitney and Grayson Whitney.
No funeral, memorial or graveside services are planned. Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Private inurnment at Green Mountain Cemetery in Boulder.
