Dr. A. Glenn Shoptaugh of Colorado Springs, CO died peacefully at home surrounded by his family, on September 3, 2017. He was 88 years old.
Glenn is survived by his wife Joey, of 64 years, his 10 children (Debbie, Mark, Frank, Jerry, Mike, Suzy, Peter, Merri, Jeni, and Amy) and their spouses, 25 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Frank, of Colorado Springs, CO.
Glenn was born in Louisville, KY, September 29, 1928. He was a curious young man and a self-starter, who worked two jobs to put himself through medical school at Indiana University. From 1953 to 1962, Dr. Shoptaugh served honorably in the United States Air Force as a Medical Officer, Flight Surgeon and Pediatrician. Upon separation from the Air Force, Glenn set up his pediatric practice in Colorado Springs, Colorado where he and his wife decided was the best place to raise their growing family. He was a dedicated Pediatrician for 50 years, providing care for three generations of families. He retired at the age of 82. He believed that loving what you do and giving it your all is the secret of happiness. He truly loved his patients and his profession.
He is remembered for his love of family and his patients, his passion for life-long learning, his excitement for adventure, his appreciation of nature and music, and his moral integrity. He instilled in his family the importance of compassion, hard -work and his love of life. These characteristics were the foundation of his illustrious career and his and Joey's close-knit family.
Dr. Shoptaugh was an incredibly kind and giving man. He touched many, many lives with his soft touch, empathetic heart and incredible mind. He was a caring Pediatrician, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He truly lived a life worth celebrating and will be missed by all that knew him.
May the Lord bless him with heavens blessings, as well as with human joys.
A Private Family Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, September 10 at 2:00pm at Swan Law Funeral Home. A "CELEBRATION OF LIFE" EVENT WILL BE HELD IN HIS HONOR ON SEPTEMBER 29th at the Woodmen Valley Chapel from 12:00-2:30.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions can be made to the "Dr. Glenn Shoptaugh Love of Children Fund" at ANB Bank, 1095 Garden of the Gods Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80907. The family would like to thank Pike's Peak Hospice for their tender care and compassion for Dr. Glenn, and the MANY individuals and patients that touched his life.
