Colonel Herbert Monroe Farr, USAF RET, passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2012, exactly nineteen years after the death of his father, Estle (Kidd) Herbert Farr. Herbert was born October 29, 1943 in Winnfield, Louisiana to parents, Claudell and Kidd Farr. He resided in Louisiana until 1966 when he graduated from Louisiana Polytechnic Institute (LA Tech) with a BS degree in Industrial Management He was then commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant into the USAF. Shortly after graduation, Herbert was stationed at Edwards A.F.B., CA where he met and married Judith Ratekin on March 17, 1967. Herbert is survived by his loving wife, of 45 years, his daughter, Jennifer Farr, grand-daughter, Alexandra Archuleta and his sister, Claudia Ann Franks. Others include his mother-in law, Phyllis Beaupit, brother-in-law, Michael Ratekin and nephews Justin Franks, Jared Franks and KC Ratekin. Herbert served the USAF for 27 years. While on active duty, he earned a MBA and upon retirement, he earned a second Masters Degree in Computer Science. He then entered the civilian world and worked for ten years at Electronic Data Systems before his second retirement. Herbert then pursed his dreams of being a gentleman farmer/rancher following this second retirement. He spent the next several years enjoying his six acres in Black Forest, CO. He assisted his daughter in caring for her horses and he enjoyed gardening, landscaping and many other hobbies during this retirement time. However, his most treasured pleasure was enjoying and being with his grand-daughter, Alexandra. To honor his life, a “Celebration of Life� will be held at 4:00PM, Friday, December 14, 2012 at The Springs Funeral Services 3115 E. Platte Avenue. An Honor Guard graveside service will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Winnfield, LA.
