Mary Alice Bowers Venable Brite of Colorado Springs went to be with our Lord, Jesus Christ, on August 6, 2017, at The Denver Hospice in Denver, CO. Our beloved Mary was born June 28, 1930, in Drumright, Oklahoma, to Leo and Bessie Bowers.

A former grade school teacher, Mary went on to become a published author. Her entry into a book contest resulted in publishing her first book, Top of the Valley. Her second book, Triumph Over Tears and other books and articles soon followed. Mary also wrote numerous newspaper articles and Sunday School curriculums. She was a founder of widows groups and Brite School of Christian Writers. Her heart and passion was researching and writing, as well as helping widows through the grief process (having been widowed herself in 1967 and left with 4 children when her first husband, Dr. Charlie P. Venable, was killed in a plane crash). A woman of great passion and compassion, Mary diligently worked to help anyone in need of extra loving care.

Mary is survived by her husband of 47 years, Robert N. Brite, Sr., their 7 children, Rebecca Brite, Dan Venable, Kathy Venable Reeve (Bob), Bob Brite, Jr., Ruth Venable Hansen, Dave Venable (Kendra), and Steven Brite (Lisa); 15 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, her sister, Joan Lineback and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
