Richard Howard Ostien went to join his Maker on August 22, 2014. Richard was born on October 16, 1930 in Detroit, MI to Thomas Lee Ostien and Laura (Holliday) Ostien, he grew up in Royal Oak, MI graduating from Royal Oak High School. Richard went on to attend Knox College for two years and was then drafted into the 45th Division of the Army, serving in Korea on the line for 7 months earning the Combat Infantryman Badge. He returned to Knox graduating in 1956. He was a Member of the Sigma Kappa Fraternity.

As a salesman for Wood Conversion Company, and living in Wilmington, DE he met his future wife Muriel Pearce in 1958 and married in 1960. They moved to Battle Creek, MI in 1962 and then Flint, MI in 1966. Richard first worked for, and then owned a Service Master. In 1975 they moved to Colorado Springs where he owned Peak Meat and High Valley Farm. Richard retired in 1992 and pursued his love of tennis at the Garden of the Gods Club. Richard and Muriel then made Palm Desert, CA their winter home for 20 years at Deep Canyon Tennis Club.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Muriel, brother Thomas Ostien , son Rick Ostien, daughter Lynn Shafer, two grandsons, one granddaughter and several nieces and nephews, 11 great and 5 great great nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on September 3, 2014 at 11 AM at 217 E. Pikes Peak, St. George's Anglican Church with reception to follow.
