Dr. W. Dale Anderson
December 14, 1936 - April 10, 2018
Dr. W. Dale Anderson, a distinguished ophthalmologist since 1970, passed away April 10, 2018 at the age of 81. His many accomplishments started at Pomona College in California and continued at the University of Washington in Seattle. From there, he joined the U.S. Army and spent time at different Army bases before coming to Colorado Springs, stationed at Fort Carson. After his time in Vietnam, he decided to settle in Colorado Springs and open a practice.
He was united in marriage in Seattle to Caroline Taylor in August 1958 to almost make a wonderful 60 years of marriage. He is survived by his wife, Caroline; daughters, Kathleen and Robin; grandchildren, Molly, Kori, and Liam.
He had a love for many things including golf, fly fishing, traveling to different wine countries, and his work. He was fortunate to be able to continue doing what he loved until the time of his passing. He was loved and will be missed by many including the patients he cared for throughout the years.
Per Dale's wishes, no formal memorial service is planned.

Dale and I were first year roommates in Clark Hall at Pomona College. He was then a very intelligent, gentle, and decent man, and I am sure he changed, if at all, only for the better during his long and professionally distinguished life.

My wife and I shall miss Dr. Anderson. We were looking forward to our next appointment. Although we didn't know him during Vietnam, we still served during the same time period. We moved to Cañon City in 1998, and have been going to him since. Please except our condolences to a great man and a brilliant doctor.

For years my wife and I looked forward to our appointment-eye exam with Dr. Anderson. Even when it became apparent I needed eye surgery he was reassuring and helped to calm our concerns. We will miss this gentle man who showed love for his patients. Our sympathies are extended to you, his family, and may the memories of your husband-dad-granddad be with you always.

I will miss Dr. Anderson very much. My friends dad, Dr. Dardis told me when I got my teaching job in town, to definitely go to Dr. Anderson when I need an eye doctor. My wife started going to him when she moved to Colorado Springs in 1973. I eventually had to go see him. I loved visiting with Dr. A, talking about our love of golf, sports and fly fishing. I eventually was diagnosed with MS and there wasn't anyone I trusted more than Dr. Anderson, when it came to my eye health.
We will miss him very much.

I am one of Dr. Dale's patients and have been for many years. He was always kind, respectful and caring. I always looked forward to seeing him and chatting. I will miss him, his dignified manner and the reassurance that I was in great hands concerning my eye health. You could tell he loved what he did and his patients who were made to feel more like friends than patients.

While working at the Steaksmith restaurant, I came to know Doc Anderson and Caroline well. The Anderson's were my favorite customers. Whenever I saw the Anderson name on the reservation book, my day was brightened.
In addition to discussing wine, I loved talking baseball with Doc. His dedication to the Pitsburg Pirates was admirable. I recall him talking about listening to baseball games on a small transistor radio when he should have been sleeping as a child. The light in Doc's face as he told me this story signaled a deep passion for life. He knew how to live life to the fullest.
Many memories of pleasant conversations in the garden room of the Steaksmith with Doc and Carline come to mind. Doc had a way of making people feel like they were the most important person and he valued what they had to say.
I'm sure his family knew this, but Doc's life had a significant impact on many people. He will be immensely missed. I offer my sincerest condolences to Caroline and the Anderson family.
