Ronald Wayne Hunter, 77, passed away June 27, 2014 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

He was born July 7, 1936 to Levi and Eva (Hall) Hunter in Atlanta, Kansas. Ronald soon moved to Colorado where he developed a quick love for the mountains and wildlife.

Ronald was very involved in the community and an active member of both the Animal Welfare Administration and The Exchange Club. Ronald spent 36 years as the Executive Director of the local Humane Society and was a founding member. He was a huge supporter of The Wild Horse Protection Act. Ronald also raced horses in the New Mexico, Oklahoma and Colorado area. He had a deep love for flying and held his pilot license. In later years he and his son J.C. spent much time searching auctions for horse drawn carriages for restoration.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna.

Ronald is survived by his son, J.C. Hunter, of Colorado Springs; his daughter, Melanie Swager, and her family of Westminster, Colorado; three grandsons: Jessie Smith, Brandon DeVore and Dillon Hunter; five great-grandchildren; life-long friends Randy and Dart Allmendinger; and many other family members and friends.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the Shrine of Remembrance "America the Beautiful" Chapel with Nita Mathews officiating.
