Gerald “Gerry” Biggar Obituary

Gerald "Gerry" Biggar
November 29, 1942 - May 5, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Gerry Biggar on May 5, 2025, at the age of 82. He is lovingly survived by his wife, Savannagh, children Brandi, Jamie, Guy and Karlee, and stepson, Jonathan Rosen.

Born and raised in Steveston, Gerry was a proud and passionate member of his community for his entire life. As a teenager, Gerry was affectionately known as the "mayor" of Richmond Teentown, organizing Friday night dances and proclaiming himself the greatest rock and roller in the Northwest. He graduated from Richmond High School and began his working life selling auto parts before moving on to Canada Cement and Lafarge.

Gerry was involved in Army Cadets in his youth and was very proud of serving in the Westminster Regiment. He diligently rode the train to the armouries in Vancouver every week and he later joined the Reserves in adulthood. When his children reached the age of 12 years old, three of the four joined cadets and he gave his time as an active member of the parent committee.

Gerry eventually found his calling in real estate, where he combined his keen business sense with a deep desire to help others. After earning his real estate license, he joined the Block Brothers team and spent many successful years helping people find their dream homes. He earned a reputation as an honest and caring realtor who truly listened to the needs of his clients.

In the late 1980s, when the government put out a call for proposals to develop the Steveston Waterfront, Gerry saw an opportunity to create something meaningful for the community. He assembled a team, submitted a successful bid, and brought his vision to life. Steveston Landing officially opened in the summer of 1990 and remains a cherished part of the community to this day.

Though Gerry continued working in real estate, his heart remained at Steveston Landing. Alongside his beloved wife Savannagh, he co-owned and operated Shady Island Seafood Bar & Grill for 20 years, creating a warm, welcoming place that became a local favourite. They retired from the business in 2019.

During these years, Gerry and Savannagh discovered a love of cruising, traveling halfway around the world together and collecting stories and memories wherever they went.

Gerry was always drawn to the energy of a good celebration. When Richmond announced it would host a Tall Ships festival, Gerry was among the first to get involved, eager as ever to be where the action was and help make it a success.

Gerry's Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 23 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 4451 Williams Road, Richmond, with a Celebration of Life to follow at Richmond Funeral Home. All who knew Gerry are warmly invited to attend and share in remembering his remarkable life. To leave messages of condolence, please visit richmondfuneral.ca
