As a garden helper for several years, I enjoyed working alongside Mrs. Michasiw and hear her voice when I potter in my own yard.

I'm so sorry for your loss. She was an indomitable woman and I will remember her love of plants and reading, and cherish our many discussions that we had over the ten years+ years I knew her.

Just this morning I was going through some old file folders with correspondence dating back years. Among them was a stack of letters from Barbara Michasiw. She was my English teacher at Sheridan College (where I studied Fashion Design) in the late seventies. We became fast friends, as the stack of letters prove, but sadly lost touch over the years as I move hither and yon across Canada with my growing family.
So I decided to google her name. Only to find out that she recently passed away, or as we say in Sweden where I am from, she has exited time.
It was as if fate gave me a chance to say goodbye to her. So goodbye Barbara, you were one of the loveliest, kindest, warmest women I ever met. I sometimes wished you were my mother. You made me feel better about myself when I needed it.

Barbara was a long-time and much cherished friend of mine, a sort of second mother to me, especially in these last 20 years since my own passed away. She was always ready to welcome visitors to her home, and to discuss current local, national and international issues right into her hundreds! Looking after herself, her home, and her garden into her late 90s, Barbara exhibited a remarkable ability to manage living alone as well as to cherish those who knew and loved her. Her life made mine richer, and I shall miss her dearly.

Barb was a good colleague at Sheridan College personally and publicly. I admired the way she vocally defended students´ education at meetings when administrators tried to pare it to balance the books. She was an honourable person.

Kim,
I'm very sorry to read the news of your mother's death. The obituary was very moving.

Barbara was one of the first and loyalest of Theatre Erindale members - attending matinees when evenings no longer worked for her and continuing to subscribe for years even after she could no longer hear.
I am saddened to hear this news, but her remarkable life journey will be an inspiration to everyone she knew. She was a woman of great grace.
With Deepest Sympathy,

Barb was the epitome of graciousness and kindness. She told me, once, that when she applied to be a professor at a Canadian university, the interviewer told her they were only hiring American men. It was the 60´s. She was a wonderful colleague at Sheridan College.
