Marlys Cusick Obituary

MARLYS MARY CUSICK
December 3, 1938 March 19, 2020
Marlys Mary Cusick passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 19th. She was surrounded by loved ones and will be remembered for her strength and grace. Born December 3, 1938, Marlys is survived by her siblings (Jack and Maxy), her dear friend (Ron), three children (Marc, Karen and Michael), their spouses (Shelly, Jeff and Tricia), and five loving grandchildren (Madison, Makenna, Lauren, Shelby and Alex).
Marley" was not only the rock and matriarch of her family but was extremely passionate about her community. Her friends - the likes of which she had accumulated over 60+ years in Colorado Springs - meant the world to her. Whether through her church or within her neighborhood, Marley made it a point to check-in and care for the people of her community. She absolutely loved taking walks, especially in the Monument Valley, and if you were walking with her, you'd be assured to encounter one of her friends.
An avid fan of both Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, Marley always kept up with current events and was focused on our country living up to its potential for greatness. If there was a deal to be found, you could guarantee Marley already had the coupon cut out or printed. Her family will remember her complete selflessness and leadership. The little things she would do - cooking or taking her family out to meals, cutting out newspaper articles her grandkids might find interesting, and being responsible for at least half of the family's entire wardrobe - can neither be replaced or forgotten. And you better have been on your toes around her, or you were liable to be the butt end of a joke. Her sense of humor was creative and clever, and her laughter will be missed.
Her last six months on earth were spent fighting ruthlessly to regain her strength and health. Her doctors and care staff used her determination as inspiration for other patients. And although her battle came to an end, the way she fought will influence her family for years to come.
Unfortunately, due to the current pandemic, a celebration will be postponed to a later date. Marley wanted a "party" and in order to have a proper one, we will celebrate her life when we all are free to remember and commemorate her with the same enthusiasm she showed in life.
In lieu of flowers or monetary donations, the family asks you consider giving to the Colorado Springs Parks and Recreation department. We will be sponsoring a tree within the Monument Valley in her honor. Checks can be made out to Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services in care of Marc Cusick at 19720 Furrow Road, Monument, CO, 80132.
