Annie Smith Obituary

Annie M. Smith, affectionately known as “Mabel”, departed this life on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Lucy Corr Village, Chesterfield, VA.  Annie was born on September 26, 1935, in Prince George, VA.  To the late John and Nannie Diggs.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Nathaniel Smith, Sr.; son, Charles Diggs; brothers, George Diggs, John Diggs and Charles Diggs; sisters, Rose Diggs Turnquist, Queen Binyard and Blanche Robinson.

Annie was known for her kind and generous heart, an infectious smile, down home cooking, and always willing to offer her help. Most of all, Annie was a servant of the Lord and was the matriarch of our family.

Annie leaves to cherish her precious memories: sons, Nathaniel Smith, Jr. (Irene) of Prince George, VA, and Daniel Smith (Latosha) of Methuen, MA; daughters, Rose Humphrey of Petersburg, VA, and Diane Gibson (Donald) of Prince George, VA. She also leaves to remember and cherish her memory: a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins, other family and friends. Annie was loved and cherished by many special friends, among them cousin, Rev. Allison Bland-Tucker, Phyllis Washington, Mary Taylor, Gloria Jackson, Harold James, Bessie James (deceased), Beverly Thomas, Valerie Powell, Bridgette Taylor, Esther Taylor, Tony Dabney, Ann Morgan, and forever in her heart was her Pecan Acres Family. 

Our family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Lucy Corr Village-Clover Hill Unit for their sincere, caring and dedicated services to our mother during her stay there.

Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, January 29, 2025, in the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA, Elder Joyce Robinson, eulogist and Rev. Allison Bland-Tucker, officiant. The interment to follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.
