Betty Ann Whitson went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 20, 2025 at the age of 88. Her life was a testament to quiet faith, lifelong learning, and the power of kindness.
Born on May 15, 1937, to Jack and Ruth Mary Whitson, Betty was raised on the family farm in Hansford County, Texas. She attended Spearman schools, where she was an active participant in the school band and 4-H, earning numerous awards for her accomplishments.
After graduating high school, Betty pursued higher education at West Texas State College, where she earned her undergraduate degree. She went on to build a distinguished 38-year career as an educator. In the classroom, she was more than a teacher — she was a mentor, encourager, and role model. Betty’s passion for learning didn’t stop there; she went on to earn both a Master’s and a Doctoral degree from the University of Houston, embodying the value of lifelong education.
In retirement, Betty embraced a new chapter in her life as a writer. She authored two works of fiction, pouring her vivid imagination and deep understanding of the human heart into stories that touched readers and reflected her thoughtful spirit.
For the last seven years of her life, Betty made her home at Hansford Manor. There, she continued to be a light to others, forming deep, lasting bonds with her caregivers and fellow residents. Her warmth, wit, and grace brought comfort and joy to many during this time, and she remained a source of strength and inspiration even in her final years.
Betty is survived by her sister, Frances Whitson; her brother, Tom Whitson; her sister-in-law, Linda Whitson; and nieces Christie and Susan. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Bill and Bob.
Betty will be remembered as a beloved daughter, a caring sister, a devoted teacher, a gifted writer, a cherished friend, and above all, a faithful servant of Christ. Her sweet smile will never be forgotten.
A funeral service celebrating Betty’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at the First Christian Church in Spearman, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to the First Christian Church of Spearman or to a favorite charity.

I loved Betty so much❤ She always had a smile on. She was such a caring person. She had a tender heart & she had such a great humor. I met Betty while working at the manor & I enjoyed her so much. We were great friends & I will miss her dearly. We took walks outside around the manor & she enjoyed seeing all the nature. We always took a rest break at the gazebo where she enjoyed the cool breeze out of the heat. We talked about all the things we saw as we walked & had such an enjoyable time. I love you Betty & I will miss you my friend & buddy❤

Dear sweet Whitson family, we know your beloved Betty only through the years of praying for God’s grace and mercy over her at the request of her sister and our dear friend and Bible student, Frances. We are grateful to have known Betty through stories Frances has shared. We are praying now for your family to see and feel the comfort of peace and great fortune to imagine the wholeness of Betty’s soul as she stands perfectly healed in the presence of our Jesus Christ, Lord and Savior, thanking Him for His sacrifice and salvation. See how she rejoices in His love and provision? She will be waiting for each of you.
God, please bless this family with nurturing memories of Betty and give them great comfort as they grieve their loss. Amen.
