Raymond Cardinale Obituary
UTICA – Raymond Cardinale, age 99, of Utica, New York, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Friday, September 26, 2025. Born on June 1, 1926, in Utica, he was the son of the late Pasquale and Maria Cardinale. A lifelong learner, he graduated from T.R. Proctor High School in 1943, earned degrees from Mohawk Valley Community College, and later from Utica College. At just 17 years old, Raymond proudly answered the call to serve his country in World War II. He joined the U.S. Navy and served with honor aboard the destroyer escort USS Day in the Pacific. His service remained one of his proudest achievements throughout his life. On September 6, 1947, Raymond married the love of his life, Theresa (Chiffy). Together they shared 57 wonderful years until her passing. Raymond built a long career with Bendix, where he worked for more than 30 years before retiring and beginning a successful second career in real estate. He was also deeply committed to public service, serving the New Hartford community as a respected county legislator for ten years. He was active in many organizations that reflected his faith, patriotism, and heritage, including the Knights of Columbus, the Knights of St. John, American Legion Post 1376, the Sons of Italy, and as a longtime trustee of the MVCC Board. In his spare time, Raymond enjoyed woodworking, often crafting unique birdhouses and personalized mailboxes. He had a lifelong love of cars and delighted in sharing that passion with his family and friends. Above all, Raymond cherished his family. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Patrick and Patricia Cardinale; his daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn and William Montesano, and Eve and Robert Calli. He also leaves behind eight beloved grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, who brought him endless pride and joy. He was predeceased by his devoted wife Theresa and his three sisters, Theresa Moccaldi, Rose Jalowiec, and Carmella "Cookie" Biasi, who always spoiled him with love. Raymond will also be deeply missed by his many dear friends, especially those at Acacia Village, who became like family in his later years. The family wishes to extend heartfelt appreciation to those who supported and cared for Raymond with compassion, especially CNA's Lujanna and Natasha, Dr. Thomas John, and Father Joe Salerno for his spiritual guidance. In keeping with the family's wishes, there will be no public visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the convenience of the family, with entombment to follow at St. Agnes Cemetery. Full military honors will be accorded. This obituary was lovingly written by Ray's family.
