I met Chris while working at the Jay Country Store about 11 years ago. He came in just about every day and I remember he would always buy those bottled smoothies. He was so kind and I always appreciated his gentle disposition. We bonded over a shared love of cats and eventually became friends.
A special memory I wanted to share was when he showed me the illuminated manuscripts that his mother made. I think he was surprised that I not only knew what an illuminated manuscript was, but had a genuine fascination with them. I was so amazed at their beauty, but what struck me even more was how privileged I felt that he would share them with me — they felt sacred.
I moved away and lost touch with Chris shortly after meeting. I’m heartbroken to hear of his passing and I wish I’d had a chance to tell him how much of a treasured memory that is for me and how fondly I thought of him. I hope wherever he is now, he’s surrounded by peace and love.
