Daniel “Danny” Eugene Smith, Sr. was born to the late Elbert Allen Smith Sr. and Mary Alice Smith on April 9, 1944, in Caroline County, VA. He was called to his heavenly home on Thursday, December 11, 2025.
At an early age, Danny joined church and became a member of St. John Baptist Church in Caroline County, Va. He joined Piney Branch Baptist Church later in his adult life and was an active member of the Combined Choir and was a faithful Trustee. He attended Sunshine Primary School and Union High School in Caroline County, VA.
Danny was an amazing, certified plumber and was employed at WW Plumbing in Arlington, VA, for many years. After retiring from there, he became self-employed where his plumbing business became very popular in the community until his health began to decline. He took pride in his outstanding work as a plumber. He enjoyed going to the racetrack, pitching horseshoes, hunting, and fishing. He also really enjoyed contributing to and preparing the family's annual "Friends & Family cookouts" until his health no longer allowed him to.
Danny was also affectionately known as "Dad", "Papa Danny", "Papa", "Poppy", "Uncle Danny" "Smitty" and "Dino" by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Danny was proceeded in death by his parents, his twin brother, David Smith Sr. of Manassas, Va. and his brother Frances Richardson of Ladysmith, VA. He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted faithful wife of 34 years Gladys E. Smith, 5 children: 2 sons, Daniel Smith Jr. (Linda), Maurice Smith (Stephanie) both of Fredericksburg, Va., 2 bonus sons, Marion "Billy" Terrell Jr., Rodney Terrell (Tina) both of Spotsylvania, Va. and 1 bonus daughter, Latoyia Johnson of Fredericksburg, Va., two brothers: Elbert Smith Jr. of Maryland and George Smith Sr.(Brenda) of Caroline County, Va., three sisters: Patricia Rock (Darnell), Gloria Nelson (Eugene) and Mary Sue Davis, all of Caroline County, Va., 26 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He also leaves to cherish his memory, 2 sisters-in-law, Jean Richardson and Nevada Smith, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A viewing will be held at A.L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home, on Monday, December 22, 2025, at 10:00 AM followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. The interment will follow at Glen Haven Memory Gardens.
