David Stanley Smith, 87, of Leon, WV, passed away January 28, 2026 in Belpre, OH, following a sudden illness. 


He was born February 11, 1938 in Leon, WV, a son of the late Sumner Stanley and Gladys Opal (Kapp) Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn Pearl (Baker) Smith; daughter, Cindy Smith; brothers, Donald Dale Smith and Delbert Lee Smith; sister, Anna Mae DeWeese and Connie Sue Hawkins along with two infant siblings. 


He was a graduate of Point Pleasant High School. He was a former supervisor for Westinghouse with 35 plus years of service. After retiring from Westinghouse, he moved to Michigan for ten years and worked as a supervisor in an automotive fabrication plant. He was the former Chief of the Whitesville/Jackson New Jersey volunteer fire department with 20 years of service. He enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing and the outdoors and was a Christian. 


Survivors include his son, Michael David (Dana) Smith of Jackson, NJ; brothers, D. Eugene (Roberta) Smith of Leon and Steve (Joyce) Smith of Leon; sisters, Geraldine Hall, Viola “Toots” Stone and Mary Jordan all of Leon; granddaughters, Haley (Smith) Wallace and Brooke Smith. And also great granddaughter Millie Wallace, who David was anxiously awaiting the arrival of. 


Visitation will be Wednesday, February 4, 2026 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Casto Funeral Home Evans, WV.  Service will be 1 p.m. ~ Thursday, February 5, 2026 at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, WV with Donnie Fisher officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Church Cemetery, Leon, WV
