Deaconess Geraldine Edmonds Kirksey, 78, of Richmond, Virginia, affectionately known as “Gerl”, entered into eternal rest on May 18, 2025, at Beaufont Health and Rehabilitation Center. Geraldine was born on September 21, 1946, to the late Elsie T. Robinson and Hodges Curtis, Sr.


Gerl was a native of Petersburg, Virginia and a graduate of Peabody High School Class of 1965. Geraldine accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of First Baptist Church Harrison Street, Petersburg, Virginia. She later moved her membership to Cedar Street Baptist Church of God where she served on the Deaconess and Women’s Ministry.


Geraldine was employed at Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company, Inc. She also was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse until she retired. Geraldine had a true passion for people, and she touched many lives throughout her nursing career. She loved cooking, spending time with her son, dancing, traveling and spending tie with her church family and friends. She also loved her sister Nadine’s lemon and coconut pies.


Geraldine was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy “Bunny” Edmonds; devoted son, David Edmonds; parents, Elsie T. Robinson and Hodges Curtis, Sr.; grandparents, Walter and Elnore Harris, Alexander Curtis and Virginia Evans; brothers, Rudolph “Rudy” Curtis, Daniel Taylor and Harvis Thurman; nephew, Johnny E. Taylor; aunts, Mary Lou Curtis (devoted) and Rosa McCrae; and her uncles, Bernard Harris (Richetta), Alexander Curtis and Richard Lee Curtis.


Geraldine leaves to cherish her memory, one granddaughter, Davetha Lawler; one great granddaughter, Davé Amore Lawler; sisters, Evangelist Denise Taylor, Nadine Holmes, Halimah CeeSay (Askia), Joyce Studivant (Alexander) and Lecolia Barkley Hill; brothers, Hodges Curtis, Jr., (Phyllis), Benjamin Curtis, Rudolph Collins, Chief Apostle Avery E. Taylor, James Harris (Sandra), Tony Waltonand Russell Taylor; step-siblings, Patricia Bannister (Gilbert) and Armond Ricky Johnson (Barbara); devoted nephew, Darron Lynch (Katie); sisters-in-law, Diane Lynch, Freda Curtis and Phyllis Curtis; devoted cousins, Cathy and Yevonne; special/devoted friends, Peggy Sumner, Janet Griggs, Thelma Serry and Cheryl Lynn; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


The family would like to give special thanks to Keith Griffin for all his support.


Services will be held at 3:00 P.M., Saturday, May 31, 2025, in the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Jean Braxton, eulogist. The interment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.
