Jock Dee Payten was born on September 7, 1960, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Jesse Payten, Sr. and Thealonia Payten. As part of a proud military family, he spent his childhood in various locations before settling in Wichita, Kansas, where he made lasting memories and lifelong friends.
While in junior high school in Wichita, Jock met Andrea Duckett: the girl down the street, the love of his life. Their friendship blossomed into a beautiful marriage that lasted 45 years. Together they raised two children, Ashley Neal and Jock Darian Payten (Charnice), and cherished their grandchildren Aariah, Josiah, and Ava.
After graduating from North Texas State University, Jock devoted 25 years to education; spending much of his career as a beloved algebra and geometry teacher at Molina High School in Dallas, where he inspired students and built lifelong friendships. He wasn’t afraid of working hard, and for many years he juggled multiple jobs in addition to his teaching profession to ensure his family was well cared for.
Despite facing health challenges, Jock’s attitude remained fun-loving, persevering, and optimistic. He was a true believer in Christ, and an active member of Open Bible Fellowship Church. In retirement, he thoroughly enjoyed playing poker and golf, and created a monthly poker night for friendly competition amongst family and friends. He also cherished the monthly lunches with the men of his family, where stories, wisdom, and humor were shared around the table. He appreciated the special moments in life and will be remembered for his generous nature and desire for others to enjoy special moments as well.
Jock has a large family! He was preceded in death by parents, Jesse and Thealonia Payten. Remaining to cherish his memory are siblings, Debra Spriggs (Perry), Jesse Payten III (Deborah), Jay Payten, Donna Payten, Olufemi Kasisi Payten, Lyrea Collins (Marcus), Tres Pryor Payten, Jarret Payten; and special mother, Constance Payten; as well as a host of family and friends.
Jock was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed — A man who lived with kindness, integrity, and heart.

Dearest Andrea,
Deepest condolences to you and the entire Payten family. May Jock’s amazing personality lives on through you. I want to share one of several memories I have of Jock. Jock often shared an elementary or middle school memory to a group of people. He’d turn to me, “Tara, you remember the time.” “No Jock I met you in high school.” My statement was not good enough, so he continued saying, “Yes you were there because.” No Jock..”someone else jumps in to confirm what I said. He mutters to himself, scratching his head, “Hmm (in a much lowered tone) you fit in so well, I thought you were always around”
May his memory be a blessing to everyone who knew him.
Andrea, if there is anything you need, call me. I am often in the Dallas area.
May God be with you all.
