Katie and I were friends the last year I lived in Alabama. At a time where I did not like myself much, she made me feel beautiful and seen. I loved and admired her spirit, creativity, and kindness. May she rest in peace.

katie oh katie. when i was just a scared little freshman you took me under your wing and for that i am eternally grateful. you gave me a space to have a voice and you taught me how to use it. your heart was so deep and held space for everyone and everything and that is something i admire so much. right now i feel so rotten i couldn’t be there for you today but i hope you know how much i wish i could have been. i love and miss you so so much.

Katie was a bright light in some of my darkest times. She helped me in so many ways. She was radiant, caring, and knew the true meaning of companionship and friendship. Katie and I met at Alabama, and for so long were always together. Even after we both developed different groups of friends. She had a sort of magnetism about her. And she was always willing to give to others. She truly did make my life so much brighter. I just wish that close relationship had continued after we both moved away. I offer my deepest condolences in this time of mourning for your family. I miss Katherine. We all do. May she rest in peace with the lord above.

I first met Katie at the University of Alabama because we lived in the same building. Everytime I walked into a room and felt unsure about myself, Katie was the first person to find me and make me feel welcome. Her kindness is something I will always remember and treasure about her. I remember her as such a funny, kind, passionate person, who was unapologetically herself. I will miss her, and my thoughts are with you all during such a difficult time.

If it's true that 'a thing of beauty is a joy forever,' then it must be likewise true that a person of joy is beautiful forever! Accordingly, may Our gracious LORD, Who imbued Katie with both beauty AND joy, rightly grant eternal happiness to her and supernatural solace to everyone mourning her grievous loss. Heartfelt sympathy is extended to the immediate family, especially to her loving mother Kathleen. + + +

Katherine was a near-constant source of joy to me for all the years I knew her. When we met, she was a freshman at Alabama and I was a first year grad student taking myself all too seriously. She helped me get through those extremely challenging years of my life simply by being herself—her charming, talented, warm, effortlessly kind, beautiful, and generous self. Singing with her in our a cappella group every week that we were in school together was by far the best part of my week, and she was often the best part of the best part. I cannot emphasize enough how influential she has been on my outlook on life and the way I treat people. She taught me how to love people out loud. I love her very much. I am forever grateful to have known and been loved by Katherine. I will hold her in my heart forever, and I will never stop missing her.
To her family and friends and Speegle: thank you for nurturing this incredible person. I am thinking of all of you.
