2025
Laura Kathryn Judd (Kat), 82, of Petersburg, VA entered into eternal rest on January 7, 2025 after a period of illness at Bon Secours Hospital (Petersburg, VA).
She was born July 16,1942 in Dinwiddie County to the late Aaron L. Judd and Maude Judd Mason. She was pre-deceased by her brother Aaron Judd (Dump).
Kat was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church. A graduate of Southside High School (Dinwiddie, VA) class of 1960, she attended North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC. She then moved to Boston, MA to enroll in Harvard’s phlebotomy program at the Beth Israel Medical Center, where she also would work after receiving her certification.
Kat later moved to Baltimore, MD and became a member of Israel Baptist Church. For much of her career, she was a supervisor at Labcorp and Quest Diagnostic. As her mother’s health began to deteriorate, she moved back to Petersburg to serve as her caregiver. During that time, she worked for Quest part time as well as a senior program transporting people to work.
She LOVED life and lived every moment with a sense of humor and unabashed joy. Her laughter would fill any room. Her fierce love of politics led her to volunteer for national and local elections. Kat enjoyed her annual cruises with friends and was an avid music and sports fan (especially watching tennis and going to concerts). She loved her family, both by blood and extended, and enjoyed any chance to gather together. She leaves to cherish her memories two sisters Dorothy Poarch (Frank) of Middletown, DE and Ruby Winfield of Gambrills, MD; her Aunt Laura Dickerson of Ettrick, VA; nephews Talawn Winfield, Tamory Winfield, Brad Poarch, Adrian Judd, and Jarrett Judd; nieces Takirra Winfield Dixon, Teresa Judd and Glynice Coleman; devoted cousins James Williams(Lydia) and Loraine Greene; devoted friends Jennifer Jones, Eleanor Coles Eades, Bessie Pegram, and James Stewart; and a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends who will keep her legacy alive.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday January 18, 2025 at 11 a.m. at the Petersburg Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home, with burial to follow at the Olive Branch Baptist Church Cemetery, Dinwiddie, Virginia. Public viewing will be held on Friday January 17, 2025 from 12 Noon to 7 p.m.
