Marie Green Obituary
Marie H. Green, 79, of 420 Park Avenue, Hopewell, Virginia departed this life on Saturday July 5, 2025. She was born Paula Marie Claudette Hubbard in Daphne, Al, on September 29, 1945, to the late Bertie Mae Tate and Arques A. Hubbard.
Marie confessed Christ at an early age, attending a church in which her grandfather pastored in Alabama. She graduated from Baldwin County Training School and attended Alabama A&M University to major in Elementary Education.
Marie was employed for over 30 years with the Petersburg Public School System in the transportation department. She loved to cook and care for children and had a special love for kids with disabilities.
Marie was a member of Greater Faith A.M.E Zion Church where she sang with the Voices of Greater Faith, Senior Choir and The Intergenerational Choir.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond L. Green; and three brothers and two sisters, Dunbar, Kervoicer, William Jr. (Mary & Minnie), Wanda and Constance.
Marie leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Cassandra (Ricky) Gordon of Hopewell, VA and Carmen Hendrix (Alexander) of South Chesterfield, VA and Keishawn Thomas-Green of Boston, MA, goddaughters, Monica Cole (Erwin), Martina Parham, Melissa Hill (Darrin) and Tammie Gordon (Lawrence); grandchildren, Jerome McLaughlin-Green, Camryn Thompson and Jaden Green all South Chesterfield, VA, Azalea Green of Boston Ronale Mason, Jr., Antione Brooks and Ashate Brooks; three sisters, Jaquelyn Willis (Roger) of Detroit, MI, Alva M. Tate of Florida and Berdie M. Proctor of Atlanta, GA; two brothers, Norman Tate (Debra) Tate of San Diego, CA and Paul Tate (Elizabeth) of Florida; two sisters-in-law, Alice Hubbard of Detroit, MI and Clarissa McArthur of Pascagoula, MS; special friends, Gwen Whittle, Barabara Walker, Mary Dickens, Novella Payton and Sylvia Maye (her Golden Besties); and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
The family extends their most heartfelt appreciation to the Staff of At Home Hospice for their kindness and dedication to taking care of our mother, and to Beverly McLaughlin for assisting the family with getting our mom to her appointments when we were unable to.
Services will be held 1:00 P.M., Monday, July 14, 2025, at Greater Faith A.M.E. Zion Church, 1301 Youngs Road, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Randy V. Kiah, Pastor.

I met Momma Green and her two daughters when I was 18 years old working at Aunt Sarah’s Pancake house, and immediately became one of her many Babies. Through the years we were still connected and again worked together at CWDDC. She always was a light, full of Hugs, Kisses, encouraging wordsand Love. I will forever be grateful and cherish the last conversation we had during her last days
