Marie Young Obituary

Marie Ferrell Young, 97, of Summersville, passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2024. She was born at Davin WV, November 6, 1927 to the late Hubert and Amanda Barker Ferrell. Marie was predeceased by her husband, Lee Ondus; son, Mike; and granddaughter, Lori. 

Those left to cherish her memories are her children:  Lee (Marybeth) of North Ridgeville OH; David of Erbacon ; Ron (Nancy) of Shawnee OK; Linda Bassham (Charles) of Gainesville GA; and Robin (Marlene) of Powhatan VA. Marie has 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Also surviving her is brother-in-law, Raymond Young (96) of Shalimar FL, nephew Denny Crawford (Sandy) of Vermilion OH, and several other nieces and nephews. 

Marie lived in Landville WV most of her life, where she and Lee raised their children. After retirement in 1982 from Man Appalachian Regional Hospital Clinic, and Lee from coal mining, they moved to Summersville.  She was very involved with the Nicholas County Senior Center volunteering many hours in the kitchen. She especially enjoyed her Monday and Thursday card groups. Marie was a member of the RSVP, enjoyed her travels with the senior group including many cruises, her art group, line dancing, growing beautiful flowers, working crossword puzzles and loved sitting on her front porch. She was a member of Summersville Baptist Church.  

A graveside service will be held at the West Virginia Memorial Gardens,146 Little Beaver Rd, Calvin WV, on Wednesday December 4th at 11:00 am. With Pastor Dana Gatewood officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Nicholas County Senior Center, 151 Sids Way, Summersville WV 26651.
