Mary Ann Crowe Obituary

Mary Ann Ramsey Crowe, a beloved wife, mother, cousin and friend, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2024, at the age of 84 in Fernandina Beach, FL. A 5th generation Texan, she was born on January 17, 1940, in the beach town of Freeport, Texas, which instilled a life-long love of being on or near the water. She was the cherished only child of William "Billy" and Mary Ella Carrington Ramsey, who preceded her in death.

Raised in Texas and New Orleans, Mary Ann graduated from Warren Easton High School in New Orleans, LA and went on to earn a BS in Education from Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, TX. It's there that she met the love of her life, James Crowe. They married on August 8, 1962 in New Orleans and began their adventurous life together. In her lifetime, Mary Ann lived in seven states as well Cuba, England, Singapore and Hong Kong. She and Jim traveled to dozens of other countries on many memorable trips.

In addition to Jim, her husband of 62 years, Mary Ann is survived by their two daughters Beverly Crowe (Greg Gaviglio) of Fernandina Beach, FL and Kelly Crowe (Peter Barclay) of Washington, DC.

Mary Ann was active in every community in which she lived. She was a tireless volunteer for countless organizations including Girl Scouts, Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Foundation and GFWC Lagniappe Women's Club of Baton Rouge. Two organizations that brought her great joy and lasting friendships were The Order of the Daughters of the King and The P.E.O. Sisterhood. She also was a certified Master Gardener and an avid genealogist. Her commitment to service and her love for the New Orleans Saints were eclipsed only by her deep faith in God and the everlasting life.

Mary Ann's legacy of love and compassion will continue to inspire all who knew her. While she was not one to impart unsolicited advice, we believe she would tell us all to be kind, trust God and be an organ donor (she was blessed to receive a life-saving kidney 18 years ago).

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date at Lake Rhodhiss in North Carolina. Any memorial contributions may be made in Mary Ann's name to Community Hospice & Palliative Care (www.thefoundationcares.org), PEO International (www.peointernational.org), Washington National Cathedral (www.cathedral.org) or to a charity of choice.
