Mrs. Mamie Lee Jackson Ruff of 146 Rainbow Terrance, Americus, Georgia, died Thursday, July 3, 2025, at the Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 2:30 PM in the sanctuary of the Friendship Baptist Church in Americus, Georgia. The burial will follow at the Eastview Cemetery in Americus, Georgia.
Mrs. Mamie Lee Jackson Ruff, a cherished member of the Americus-Sumter County community, was born on May 18, 1928, in Randolph County, Georgia. Mamie was the beloved daughter of the late Mr. Benjamin Tucker and the late Ms. Alice Jackson. She was raised and educated in the Sumter County School System, where she developed a lifelong love for learning and community engagement.
A devout member of the New Bethel Baptist Church, where she was not only a dedicated Sunday School teacher but also the oldest member of the congregation. Her faith was a guiding light in her life, and she shared her spiritual wisdom with all who knew her.
She found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an enthusiastic participant in the Georgia lottery and a fan of the soulful music of Tyrone Davis. Her love for Gospel music resonated deeply with her spirit. She also had a great love for her cats.
Cooking was another of her great passions. She delighted in preparing meals for her family and community, sharing her culinary talents at several cafes in Americus, where her dishes were cherished by all who tasted them.
She traded the cares of this life for life eternal on Thursday, July 3, 2025. Her husband, James W. Ruff, preceded her in death along with her children, Susie Louis and Timothy Ruff; and her brothers, James Hill and Moses Jackson.
As we remember Mrs. Mamie Lee Jackson Ruff, we celebrate a life filled with love, faith, and dedication to family and community. Her warmth and kindness touched the hearts of many, and her legacy will continue to inspire those she leaves behind. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience with her loving and devoted children: Ms. Geneva Ruff of Boston, Massachusetts; Ms. Laura Saunders of Americus, Georgia; Mrs. Mary Johnson (Roosevelt) of Griffin, Georgia; Ms. Mattie Terry of Boston, Massachusetts; Ms. Paula Ruff and Mr. James Ruff of Atlanta, Georgia; Mr. Henry Ruff (Marie) of Boston, Massachusetts; Mr. Wayne Ruff of Atlanta, Georgia; Mr. Benjamin Ruff (Rose), and Mr. Antonio B. Ruff (Lynncarol) of Americus, Georgia; her 29 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; her loving sister, Mrs. Marjorie Hill of Boston, Massachusetts, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends, including Ms. Mattie Watkins, Ms. Bernice Glover, Ms. Carrie Williams, and Ms. Nanell Nelson, all of Americus, Georgia.

Dear Mamie
Thank you for welcoming me into the family in 1978. You were always kind to me. I will always remember when Cliff would call you on Sundays and you always greet him as “Cheevi Sugar”. At the end of the conversation, you would ask Cliff to kiss me, Jen, and Stephanie. I love you and I will miss you. May your spirit lives on forever with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

I always knew my Georgia grandmother as the strong but silent type. She was always so calm, just chill, relaxed, and just totally unbothered.
Every summer we would drive to the house in Americus and I just always remembered her greetings us with a smile and you can just really feel that she was so happy to see us; so happy to see my sister and me. We had so many fun times just hanging out in the back. I have so many memories that are invaluable that I will cherish forever. I am going to miss you so much Georgia grandma . I love you and you’ll definitely be in my heart forever.

Rest in peace, Mrs. Mamie Lee Jackson Ruff. Thank you for bringing together such a beautiful family and for being a light in the lives of everyone around you. You were always kind and loving to me. I am forever grateful for the blessings you gave us.
Because of you, I had the privilege of meeting Mr. Henry Ruff, who has been like a father to me. Through him I met the love of my life, your granddaughter, Jennifer Ruff.
Now you are with God watching over all of us and knowing that, fills my heart with peace. I feel your presence like a loving angel guiding us from above. Thank you for being an earth angel in every sense. Your legacy lives on in the love you gave and the family you built.
May the love of Christ be with you always.
With love and deep gratitude.
