Natalie Fanchon (Lindgren) Salton was born April 17, 1930, to Eben and Amanda (Gulberg) Lindgren on the family farm west of Albert City, Iowa. As the third of five children, she was taught to work hard and love the Lord, the land, the family and their Swedish heritage.
Natalie was 16 when her mother died of breast cancer. This prompted her to grow up fast. She found refuge in girls’ 6-on-6 basketball as a spunky starting guard for Albert City High School, graduating in 1948.
Natalie and Orven “Sandy” Salton married April 24, 1949, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert City where she had been baptized and confirmed. Breaking tradition, the minister sang “The Lord’s Prayer” at their wedding.
The newlyweds established their home in Clay County’s Logan township. Natalie was a self-proclaimed “Farm Homemaking Specialist”. Sandy and Natalie made a wonderful team raising their family and working on the farm. They had nearly 63 years of happy marriage. They raised 6 kids, sent them all to college and celebrated 6 weddings. Their infant daughter Amanda died before she was born. Family was Natalie’s greatest earthly treasure. She cherished her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Natalie was an active, long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ruthven. Being part of Bible study groups was a blessing. Natalie dedicated herself to women’s groups. She tied quilts, sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, helped with Vacation Bible School and supported ministries of Zion and other churches.
Community involvement was important to Natalie. She took pride in being a Clay County Soil Conservation Commissioner; an active Farm Bureau member; a volunteer with 4-H, hospice, and election polling; and a supporter of community events. She enjoyed playing cards, doing puzzles, gardening, being creative and learning new things.
Natalie had a heart overflowing with genuine love for others. She was a Prayer Warrior for her family, friends, and anyone else she knew in need of prayer. The lesson Natalie said she most wanted to teach the next generation was, “Everyone is special in their own way, and everyone has their own stories to tell. God loves them, and you must pass “His love” on to everyone you meet.”
Natalie made the decision to move into RCCC assisted living and was happy to be an ambassador for the facility. Following a joyous 95th birthday celebration in April, Natalie passed peacefully on July 17, 2025, surrounded by family at Spencer Hospital. Natalie is preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; her husband Sandy Salton; daughter Amanda Salton; daughter-in-law Lynn Salton; infant grandson H. Bull Salton; her siblings Floyd & Jane Lindgren, Paul Lindgren, Shirley & Dick Beadle, Allen Wayne Lindgren; in-laws, William A. & Ida M. (Johnson) Salton, Kenny & Lois Salton, Doris Salton, Doris & Virgil Treimer, Helen & Reuben Anderson, William R. Salton; nephews Larry Salton, Charles Anderson; nieces Neva (Lindgren) Heuton and Janet (Lindgren) Grimm; as well as many cousins and friends she dearly loved.
Natalie is survived by her children Eben Salton, Marilyn (Rick) Hawkins, LaVonne (Gary) Anderson, Aaron (Dianne) Salton, Susan (Chris) Irwin, Marcia (Chris) Langner; grandchildren Brian (Elizabeth) Salton, Amy (Brandon) Shostak, Forrest (Marla) Hawkins, Lyndon (Melissa) Hawkins, Sierra (John) Pfeiffer, Kent (Andrea) Irwin, David Langner, Mark (Abby) Langner; great-grandchildren Nolan & Maxwell Salton, Logan & Emma Shostak, Foster & Bear Hawkins, Allison & Robyn Hawkins, John Pfeiffer, Grant Irwin, Riley & Reese Langner; in-laws Rosemary Lindgren, Donna Lindgren, Gene Lindgren, Darlene (Jim) Embry; 4 Godchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. God bless the memory of Natalie Salton.

Natalie Salton passed peacefully Thursday morning July 17, 2025 3 months after her 95th birthday. Family who where present said she did not struggle, had no pain but passed simply peacefully and looked beautiful; angelic.
In her last week ALL of her children had been able to visit Mama, look into her pretty eyes, say what we wanted to say and get one last sweet hug and snuggle.
Last Sunday Gary and I made a wuick trip to see Mom. I got as close as i could and talked to her. I said, “I love you Mama. I am 70 years old and I will always want my Mommy, I will love youfor all time and I will forever hold you in my heart..”
I could tell she clearly knew what i was daying.
I am so thankful for those previous moments! We take comfort in knowing Mom was at peace ready to meet Jesus and yo be reunited with so many loved ones in heaven. What a happy time!
Mom had the biggest heart, worked hard, loved unconditionally and gave all she had to give.
She fulfilled God’s plans for her.

Most people would love to have a long happy life like Mom had. She was physically fit, mentally sharp , grateful for what she had, loving to all and incredibly joyful for majority of her 95 years. I am so thankful I had 70 years with my dear mother! She and I used to laugh about getting "fun mail."
Today I got fun mail from Mama!

She chose to follow Christ’s command to love others. It was a pleasure taking care of her lawnmower needs while she was still at the farm and then seeing her in church once in a while when we visited the Schnetzer’s .
