Ron Pittenger Obituary

  Ronald Lee “Ron” Pittenger, age 73, of Wellston, passed away Monday, July 28, 2025, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia.  He was born June 21, 1952 in Wellston, Ohio to the late Everett Wesley Pittenger and Wilma Jean Burke Pittenger.  Ron graduated from Wellston High School with class of 1970.  He was a self-employed carpenter and mechanic and over the years he was employed at Wellston Metal, the Lumber Company in McArthur, and Cleveland Quarry.  Ron was a member of the VFW Post 9092 in Wellston and the American Legion Post 371 of Wellston where he was honored to serve on the honor guard.  Ron was an outdoors person who in his spare time enjoyed fishing, hunting, farming, and growing tomatoes and corn in his garden.  He is survived by children, Kathy Pittenger, Michele Pittenger, and Ronald Pittenger, Jr.; grandchildren, Zoe Franklin, Javon Pittenger, and Kasey Pittenger; companion of 30 years, Francie Rosemarie Jonas; siblings, Sue Smith, Mabel Williams, Nancy Tennent, Bill Ghearing, Polly Todd, Marilyn Coles, Kenny Pittenger, and Gene Carpenter; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  Besides his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his son, Herb Wesley Pittenger; and siblings, Emma Farney, Bob Pittenger, and Paul Pittenger.  At Ron’s request, cremation followed his passing.  A Celebration of Life gathering will be held Saturday, August 2nd, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the American Legion Post 371 in Wellston.  In lieu of flowers, the family request trees be planted in Ron’s memory either locally or by donating to The Arbor Day Foundation at  [email protected].  Arrangements are under the direction of the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston.  Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.mcwilliams-funeralhome.com.
