Sharon Burns Obituary

On Sunday, August 10, 2025, Sharon Kay Burns went to be with the Lord at the amazing age of 72 years, 5 months, and 2 days, at her home in Flatonia. Sharon was born in Duncan, Oklahoma, on March 8, 1953, to Ernest Melvin McGee and Pearl Johnson McGee. She lived in Central High, Oklahoma, from the time of her birth throughout her school years and graduated from Central High School in 1973. On August 9,1975, she married Jesse Burns in Marlow, Oklahoma, and the beautiful couple lived in Chickasha, Oklahoma for a few years, then Pampa, Texas, before settling in Flatonia to raise her family.

Sharon was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She was a wonderful homemaker and amazing baker, whose pies and cookies are legendary. Throughout her life, she enjoyed cooking, baking, music, plays, reading, and shopping. She was a spitfire and always thought of everyone else before her own needs.

She became a mom in 1977, when she adopted her stepdaughter, Tammie. She had her son Jake in 1983 and a daughter Jamie in 1992. Sharon loved her family with unconditional love and by doing so, established a legacy of love through generations. Following the death of her husband, she worked hard to give her family the best life possible. She had many job titles, but her true passion was being a mom and baking. Sharon loved family gatherings in Oklahoma, her son’s BBQ cookouts, and the many shopping trips and phone conversations with her daughters. She also had a remarkable memory, never forgetting an anniversary or birthday. Sharon loved going to the cafe with her friends to chat and drink her raspberry frappe and eat her avocado toast. She loved her family and her Lord with all her heart.

Sharon was diagnosed with cancer in late 2024 and put up a valiant fight. She never lost faith and passed away peacefully with her family by her side.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Burns; parents Ernest and Pearl McGee; brother, Bobby McGee; stepson, Luis Burns; and grandsons, Jeremy Burns and Corey Wilcox.

Sharon is survived by her children, Tammie Burns and Duane Teninty of Elko, Nevada,  Jesse “Jake” and Kirby Burns, and Jamie and Kyle Shimpock, both of Flatonia; step-children, Jim Burns, Paul Burns; grandchildren, Keith Wilcox, Sykia Jones, Jim Burns Jr., Roy Burns, Kaylee Shoemaker, Hannah Shoemaker,  Noelia and Chaim Nethero, and Natasha and Paxton Garza-Palomo; siblings, Clyde  McGee, Ernest and Evelyn McGee, Helen Castelberry, Jimmy and Barbara McGee,  Linda and Charles Patterson, and Norene and Bill Johnson, all of Oklahoma; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 15, 2025, at Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home in Schulenburg. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Equippers Outreach Fellowship,  200 N. College, Weimar, Texas 78962. Interment will follow in the Weimar Masonic Cemetery in Weimar. Memorial contributions may be made to Second Chance Emporium in La Grange, or a charity of your choice.
