Thomas Johnson Obituary

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas H. Johnson, who died peacefully on July 25, 2025, at the age of 80, surrounded by those who loved him most.

Born on April 7, 1945 in St. Louis Missouri, Thomas lived a life defined by hard work, humility, and deep devotion to his family and friends. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, father-in-law and friend, and his steady presence brought warmth and laughter to everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Tom graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 1967 with a degree in Business and began his career with Dun & Bradstreet, traveling throughout the Midwest. In time, he discovered a deeper passion for hands-on work and shifted paths to pursue construction. A dedicated craftsman, Tom specialized in rehabilitating homes—breathing new life into neglected properties and transforming them into beautiful, livable spaces, often working side by side with his son.  Outside of work, Tom enjoyed an active and social life—pitching softball and playing volleyball for SNAFU, battling it out on the racquetball court, and never missing a chance to read the morning paper. He loved barbecuing with neighbors, playing washers, fishing trips with his buddies out in the country, and the simple satisfaction of a freshly mowed lawn. He looked forward to cruises with his cruise group, and few things brought him more joy than cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals.  Above all, Tom found his greatest happiness in life’s simple moments, especially those spent with his family.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Mary Margaret Johnson; his children, Michelle (Nathan) Williams, Angela (Owen) Yamaguchi, and Scott (Callie) Johnson; and his cherished grandchildren, Jordan Martorelli, Owen Yamaguchi, Reese Williams, and Josephine Burrows-Johnson. They will honor his memory by living their lives with the same laughter, kindness, and love that he shared so freely each day.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Alice Johnson, and his brother, Jerry Johnson.

A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, July 31, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Collier’s Funeral Home, 3400 N. Lindbergh Blvd, St. Ann, Missouri.

Interment with military honors will take place on Friday, August 1. The procession will depart from Collier’s Funeral Home at 1:30 PM and proceed to Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery for a 2:30 PM ceremony honoring Thomas’s service.

Friends and family are warmly invited to attend both events to celebrate Tom’s life and honor the memory of a man deeply loved and greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Kidney Fund in Thomas’s memory.

Thomas H. Johnson will always be remembered for his quick wit, humor, and the helpful nature with which he touched the lives of everyone around him. His laughter brightened rooms, and his generous spirit made a lasting impact on family, friends, and community alike.
