It is with deep sorrow and broken hearts that we announce the passing of William (Trey) Michael George III, age 16, of Lumberton, NC who left us far too soon on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.
Born on December 5, 2008, Trey brought light, laughter, energy and adventure into the lives of everyone who knew him. A fearless adventurer with a heart full of curiosity who was always on the move—climbing trees, shooting hoops, playing games with family, riding his bike a little too fast and living for the thrill of the next adventure, bringing everyone along for the ride. If there was fun to be had, Trey was already there and probably leading the way.
He loved baseball and basketball—not just playing, but living and breathing them. Whether it was games under the lights, shooting hoops in the driveway day and night or hooping at the fitness center, he gave it everything he had. He played hard, laughed often, and encouraged everyone around him. His teammates quickly became like brothers, and his coaches like family. Some of his closest friendships were built on dusty fields and late-night practices, and he brought out the best in everyone around him—on and off the court.
Off the field, he was just as full of life: a loyal friend, a caring son and brother, and someone who brought people together with his humor, big heart, and fearless energy. Trey had a smile that could light up a room and a laugh that was absolutely contagious. We’ll miss his stories, his ideas, the way he charged headfirst into life, and that twinkle in his eye when he was up to something fun. The world feels a little less bright without him, but we know he's off on the greatest adventure of all now.
Trey leaves behind his parents, William Michael George, Jr. and Tami Baker George; his best friend and sister, Haley George; grandparents, William Michael George, Sr. and Barbara Tode George, and Sandy Baker; aunts and uncles, Brandt Baker, Kurt and Tina George, Mike George and Sarah Wilkerson; cousins Max Baker, Bryce George, and Zach George; teammates, and countless friends who will miss him deeply but remember him always.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather ("Papa"), Allen Baker. Additionally, he was also preceded in death by his "Nanny" and special family friend, Claudia Eller.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at Hyde Park Baptist Church, 301 N. Roberts Ave., Lumberton, NC. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Hyde Park Baptist Church, 301 N. Roberts Avenue in Lumberton, NC.
Though his time with us was short, the impact Trey made will last forever. He lived fully, loved fiercely, and inspired many. May his memory be a blessing, and may we all carry a piece of his adventurous spirit with us always.
"The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and He helps me."
Psalm 28:7
He is deeply loved by his family, his teammates, and his many friends who became family—and he will never be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Trey’s memory can be made to: Hyde Park Baptist Church of Lumberton at www.hydepark.church/giving or to the Ronald McDonald House Charities, Inc at www.rmhc.org .

I will never forget your smile and the way you would laugh with your teammates. The amount of times in the dugout I would ask who left something behind, and someone would say “That is Trey’s coach.”
So many of us are going to miss you forever #9!
I will see you again one day Trey.. until then, don’t forget your shoes.
