Nancy Light Obituary

Light
Nancy Sharp Light
Nancy Sharp Light passed away peacefully on September 17, 2017 in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Nancy was a dedicated teacher and counselor. She taught middle school Language Arts on the Zuni Reservation for 13 years. This led her to implement an alcohol and substance abuse program designed specifically for the Zuni culture. It was the first of its kind in the U.S. and was recognized by the late First Lady, Nancy Reagan, for her unique programs. Nancy went on to create similar programs on Native American reservations all over the western U.S. In 1988 she was awarded The Outstanding Teacher of the Year in the U.S. In her final year, Nancy was writing a book for young adults, to be published posthumously. She love backpacking, camping, fly fishing, as well as cigars and a good Scotch!
She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Carl Light, her mother, Vivian McGregor Light, and her late husband, Donald E. Sharp. She is survived by her brother, Thomas W. Light (wife Bonnie), her two sisters, Susan Light Gothard, and Amy Light Sisneros (Husband Bill). She is also survived by her nephew, Micah Fitzgerald Sisneros, his wife, Taran, and their son, Bodhi; as well as her niece, Lindsey O'Hara Light, her husband, Brent Shaw, and their daughter, Vivi Mae. Nancy is also survived by Judy, Tim, Dennis, Teresa, and Ari Sharp. Her dog, Abby, misses her, as do we all.
Instead of flowers, please send memorial contributions in her name to Watermelon Mountain Ranch, 3251 Westphalia Blvd NE, Rio Rancho, New Mexico 87144.
