Leslie "Les" Turner
November 27, 1946 - December 10, 2017
Les Turner was born November 27, 1946, in Blakenall, England to George and Nancy Turner. He passed away with family and friends by his side at St. Francis Hospital on December 10, 2017.
Being raised in England, he attended Walsall College specializing in the leather industry. In 1967 he was given the country's Silver Knife Trophy as top student in his craft. He was also awarded by City and Guilds of London Institute a medal for first prize in leather goods manufacture. In the early 1970s he was recruited by Price Gardner in St. Louis, Missouri as a product development designer. Expanding his experience, he then took a position at Custom Products in Tempe, Arizona. Continuing his career with a move to Colorado Springs, Colorado with Amar, Inc., he then took on the challenge as a small business owner of Elk River, Inc. designing and producing gun cases.
He then retired and through his church, St. Michael's, he was a servant of the Lord, working with the homeless serving dinner, delivering hats and mittens to schools in the Pikes Peak area, donating and delivering snacks for the daycare children at the Colorado House, and volunteering at the ECW Thrift House.
In retirement he set the goal for himself to write a screenplay, which he accomplished, and was dabbling with writing a children's book.
Playing darts was one of his favorite pastimes, and he enjoyed traveling around the United States playing in tournaments. He coached and refereed soccer for youth programs throughout his life.
Les is survived by his wife, Mabel Turner; nephew, Paul Turner and his wife, Lorraine; great-nephew, Ethan Turner; sister-in-law, Margaret Turner; and godson, Daniel Bernal.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Nancy Turner; and his brother, Alan Turner.
Les loved life and people were his passion. He has touched many lives. He was a compassionate mentor and a confidant to many.
May he rest in peace in the arms of our Lord.
