Klaus "KV" Volker Loehr

86, retired from the U.S. Army and Harrison School District #2, died February 16, 2018, at a local hospice. A private ceremony will be held with the immediate family.
Mr. Loehr was born September 22, 1931 in Berlin, Germany to Willy and Gertrude Lhr. He was married in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Millicent (Foss) Loehr, who is deceased. He is survived by three children and a number of grandchildren.
Mr. Loehr had a truly unique and storied path to U.S. Citizenship. In 1947 while a member of the 6941st Labor Service in post-World War II Berlin, he befriended his future sponsor for U.S. Citizenship, Major C.S. Cummings of Richland, Wisconsin. As Commanding Officer of GYA (a German youth group charged with protecting U.S. Army properties during post war occupation in Berlin), Major Cummings took to and befriended the young Mr. Loehr. Through Major Cummings guidance and mentorship Mr. Loehr first moved to Canada then Wisconsin and subsequently enlisted in the U.S. Army in October of 1955. He officially became a U.S. Citizen while stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington. Mr. Loehr retired from the U.S. Army in while stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado. He did numerous tours abroad in Korea, Germany, France and Vietnam. He was awarded many honors, including two Bronze Stars, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, numerous Army Commendation and Meritorious Service Medals.
Mr. Loehr worked for the Harrison School District 2 at Wildflower Elementary, Panorama Junior High School and Harrison High School.
Following his retirement from District 2 he embarked on his third career as an American Red Cross Volunteer. He proudly volunteered a staggering 25,000+ hours at Butts Field / Evans Army Medical Hospital Ft. Carson, Colorado over a course of nearly 20 years. He was an integral part of Army Aviation medical administration. He directly impacted thousands of military pilots and crewmembers in the Pikes Peak region as a direct liaison for flight physical certifications. Among his many awards for unselfish service include the American Red Cross Cynthia Wedel Award for distinguished service, Daedalian Order of St. Michael recognizing his individual long-term support with significant and lasting impact to Army Aviation, and The White House's President's Volunteer Service Award.
Mr. Loehr was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was a passionate Cadillac owner having amassed over 15 through the years.
