Green
Marvin Eugene Green
June 28, 1916 - May 20, 2018
Marvin Eugene Green passed on May 20, 2018 at 101. Marvin was born in Fillmore, California on June 28, 1916 to William and Susan Green, and had one older sister, Hazel. Marvin was married to the love of his life, Frances, for 66 years until she passed on April 8, 2015.
Marvin had a full life, beginning with his youth in San Fernando, where he freely roamed the hills hunting squirrels that damaged the citrus farm his dad managed. In high school Marvin played football, and really enjoyed acting in school plays where he often had the lead role. He continued acting after high school with the San Fernando Players.
Marvin attended USC and worked for a short time with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). He then took a leave of absence from LAPD to enter the U.S. Army spending four years during WWII in India. Completing his obligation with the U.S. Army he rejoined the LAPD, working in many divisions including Vice and the Organized Crime Intelligence Division (OCID), which he enjoyed the most. Marvin retired after 32 years with the LAPD as a Lieutenant 2 at the age of 57.
Marvin and Frances moved to Colorado Springs 25 years ago. They spent 18 years doing volunteer work beginning with Antelope Trails Elementary School, Sertoma, and the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD). Their time with CSPD included time with the Senior Victims Assistance Team (SVAT), not realizing they were in fact Seniors! They also spent many years with the CSPD Training Division.
Throughout Marvin's life he has been characterized as "personable, kind, compassionate, diligent, sincere, loyal, sagacious, competent and thorough". He was a man of unparalleled character, integrity, and work ethic. Marvin had a tremendous sense of humor and was always smiling.
He is survived by his son, Gary (Cathy) Green and daughter, Kathy Swatosh. He had five Grandchildren: Chris (Lauren) Swatosh, Amber (Jeff) Ingram, Travis Swatosh, Cara (Jon) Moore and Chase (Suzette) Swatosh. Marvin also had seven Great-Grandchildren: Caleb, Aubrey and Brynley Ingram; Camry, Kaiden and Elyse Moore; and Ryan Swatosh. Admired and well loved, Marvin will be greatly missed by all.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday June 9 at 1 PM at First United Methodist Church (Chapel), 420 North Nevada Avenue.
