Robert Townsend Obituary

Townsend
Robert F. "Rob" Townsend
1968 - 2018
PERRY, GA -
Rob Townsend, 49, passed away on Friday, June 1, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer. Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at 10:00A.M. at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be immediately following at 11:00A.M. in the Chapel at the Funeral Home. Burial will be private in a National Cemetery in Colorado.
Rob was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to the late William Henry and Hyon Shin Townsend. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Air Force and continued in the Air Guard for a combined 22 years. After active duty which took him to the Gulf War, Rob worked with Civil Service as a Logistics Officer at various Air Force Bases including Layton AFB, Buckley AFB, and Robins AFB. He enjoyed traveling and welcomed the re-locations offered to him by Civil Service. Rob was an avid golfer and enjoyed riding his motorcycle. He was so proud of the guns that he had collected through the years, and really liked spending time at the firing range. Rob was a funny man with a great sense of humor. Those who knew and loved him will miss him tremendously.
Left to cherish the memories they shared with Rob are his beloved daughter, Victoria Townsend Hodges (Xavier) of Layton, Utah; his siblings, Cindy McLaughlin of Fresno, CA, Allen Townsend (Chooja) of York, SC, Vernon Townsend (Lauren) of Moyock, SC, and Kristi Townsend of Clarkesville, TN; several nieces and nephews including Alex, Andrew, Sarah, Ryan, and Kimberly; and his loving and devoted girlfriend, Nicky Henry of Dubai.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

I so hate this about my first cousin . We were the same age and growing up we had a good life and alot of memories. I always enjoyed the places and pictures that he would post on line. He never felt to wish me a happy birthday every year and I loved him as a brother. I will never forget you my brother and our raisin up together. The Lord has
taken another Angel from our great family. Lord I pray you know what a precious gift you have. My words cannot express how I hate this for the family. Allen, Vernon, and Christine. And his children. May God help you through this time and ease the pain that comes with losing a loved one. Kathleen Townsend Reynolds

Robert is my first cousin and I am saddened and shocked that on of my youngest cousins has left this earth at such an early age. One of my fondest memories was in Bowen, Kentucky while we all were visiting friends and family during a reunion. Robert and I decided to go target practice up near our families' farm on Halls Branch. Robert brought his M1911 style .45 and I the .357 Security Six revolver and walked pop cans down the road by shoot just in front of the cans. You could see Robert's eyes light up as he walked the can down the road with his .45 and it made me happy to see the joy that he had just doing something as simple as target practicing with his older cousin. I will miss seeing his smile and his wonderful sense of humor.

We are just a blip on the timeline, but Robert made that blip special.

My condolences to the family.
I worked with Robert for several years when I entered my Civil Service career at Hill Air Force Base.
Without his leadership skills and mentoring, my career would not have been nearly as successful.
I am very grateful to have had I'm in my life.

My memories of Rob: persistent in his early morning workouts, always early to work, cleanliness obsessions, everything has a place and should be in it, very few snack foods, Monster drinks, courteous, kind, cheerful, benevolent to others. He always performed over and above in his duties in Afghanistan. An integral part of the team! He will be greatly missed!

Robert was our supervisor for awhile here at Hill AFB, Utah. We all really liked him and was sad when he move on to another position. The impression he left was such a positive one that we've spoken of him throughout the years. The news of his passing has saddened us all. We send our condolences to his loved ones, and will continue to remember him fondly.

Rob passed all too briefly through our lives in Dubai building a loving relationship with our daughter Nicky who he made very happy.
Warm, caring, funny, resilient, we had only the briefest of times to enjoy his company.
He will be sadly missed
