ELDON "ARCH" EUGENE ARCHIBALD
August 21, 1930 November 2, 2019
Eldon (Arch) Eugene Archibald, 89, passed away peacefully at his home on November 2, 2019. Eldon was born near Almena, Kansas on August 21, 1930 to Floyd Archibald and Alice Archibald (Lough). He graduated in 1948 from Almena Rural High School, where he was football quarterback and guard on the state championship basketball team. He attended Kansas State University on a basketball scholarship. November 25, 1950, Eldon married his high school sweetheart, LaRita Archibald (Vincent).
As a surveyor for the Kansas State Highway Design Department Eldon helped plat Highway 70 through western Kansas. After moving to Colorado Springs in 1954 he worked briefly for Town Talk Bread then thirty-four years for Allstate Insurance.
In 1980, Eldon assisted LaRita in founding HEARTBEAT, a national nonprofit suicide bereavement support organization. Eldon was a 65 year member of Kansas Masonic Lodge #310. He was actively involved as a congregant of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, serving as Sunday school superintendent, youth leader and site selection committee for St. Paul's present location. He enjoyed the Rockies, racquetball with Tom, fishing and travel, especially the Colorado Springs/London Concorde flight.
Eldon was a gentle man with a great sense of humor and fair-play. Appreciation expressed by recipients of his unsung generosity included bus tickets to basketball try-outs/interviews, numerous incidents of car repair/rent/groceries and hands-on help following an insured's December house fire. He was exceedingly proud of his children and grandchildren who share memories of his consistent presence at their games/special events, Disneyland trips, sing-a-longs, Mickey Mouse pancakes and the consensus that their lives are better for his tireless love, support, and wisdom.
Eldon is survived by his wife LaRita; sons Craig Eugene Archibald, Curtis Alan Archibald, and Kevin Stuart Archibald; nine grandchildren, Timothy Bradley (fiance Kim), Andrea Walter (Ra), Laura Kelly (Sam), Katherine Archibald, Lisa Archibald, Diana Archibald, Eric Archibald, Jennifer Archibald and Steven Archibald (Sydnee); three great-grandchildren Jaden Bradley, Bailee Bradley, Spencer Bradley, dear friend Ann Sperling, extended family and many friends.
Eldon is preceded in death by his parents, brother Billy Archibald, sister Aileen Terrell and his beloved children Roger Kent Archibald (1978) and Karen Jane Bradley (2006) and son-in-law Timothy Bradly Sr. (2013).
Celebration of Eldon's life will be November 22, 2019, 10:00 am, St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 2111 Carlton, 80909. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to HEARTBEAT, P.O. Box 16985, COS 80935; Pikes Peak Suicide Prevention, 704 N. Tejon, COS 80903 or St. Paul's UMC.

Arch was a great guy to share an office with in those early days. He was always a great mentor. Prayers of comfort to his wonderful family.
