Hildegard Pauline Frieda Busch Themel
Hildegard Pauline Frieda Busch Themel, a much loved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on March 9, 2018 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born in Grlitz, Germany where she lived until World War II forced her evacuation. She lived in Europe until she was 25 when she came to the United States as an au pair. While bowling with a friend she met her future husband of 59 years, James Themel. She spoke little English and he spoke even less German.
Hildegard was devoted to her family: her husband James R. Themel Sr, and children Arthur E. Themel, James R. Themel Jr., and Jenny Themel Moore. She is also survived by her many grandchildren: Adrianna Ernstberger, Carolyn Themel, Robert (Rhett) Themel, Jacqueline Themel, Emma Themel, Ethan Lynch Moore, Katie Moore Boydston, Kylene Moore, Karissa Moore, and Evan Moore. Rhett gave her great-grandchildren whom she adored: Liam James Themel, Aria Ann Themel, and baby Ivy Isabel Themel. Her family remaining in Germany include her sister Regina Lau and her sons Steffen Lau and Holger Lau.
Everyone, including family, friends and friends of friends, affectionately referred to Hildegard as Oma. She was always there as a strong support for her family. Her house was often busy with family just stopping in or gatherings to celebrate just about anything. She was much loved and will be missed. She was the best Oma anyone could ever ask for.
