Bonnie Gilles Obituary

Gilles
Bonnie S (Dreyer) Gilles
Juy 31, 1955 - May 28, 2018
Bonnie S Gilles, age 62, of Colorado Springs, Colorado lost her battle to cancer Monday, May 28th, 2018. She was the daughter of M. Robert Dreyer, and Haremina (Nyp) Stehouwer, born and raised in Grandville, Michigan. She graduated from Calvin Christian High School, Calvin College, majoring in Political Science and Grand Rapids Community College with a degree as Registered Nurse. She was preceded in death by her father, M. Robert Dreyer.
She is survived by her Husband, Jeffrey A Gilles, and had been married for 35 adventurous years. During their 35 year marriage, they had 5 loving children: Todd A Gilles, Kemper R Gilles, Piper S Gilles, Alexe D Gilles and Shelby J Gilles.
Those who were close to Bonnie knew what a bright and independent spirit she was, she loved to travel, watch sports (Go Broncos) and most importantly support all her children in every way possible. Whether it was tennis, singing, golf or figure skating, she was there. She wasn't just the mother of her children, she was also the ultimate "skating mom" to many. She hosted skaters from all around the world (Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, Germany, Japan, Slovenia, Sweden, US, and Russia just to name a few). She supported their dreams almost as much as her own children's dreams. The skating community definitely won't be the same without her.
A Celebration of her Life service will be held on Saturday, June 9th at the Pauline Chapel, 2 Park Ave, Colorado Springs, CO at 1pm and a reception to follow at the Broadmoor. Please contact the family. Flowers may be sent to Pauline Chapel. Those wishing to make Memorial contributions in her honor may be made to CanFund or USFS as she was such a supporter in many athletes lives.

Bonnie approached life with energy and optimism. She was an incredible mother and wife . I admire her ability to make the most of every minute of her way too short life. The Brock Family will never forget Bonnie and her beautiful family. The Gilles family remains in our thoughts and prayers. Andy, Susan, Courtney

I was so sad to see that Bonnie has passed. We were next door neighbors in our grade school days. People thought we were sisters because we had the same last name. Her dad was M. Robert and my dad was Bobby Dreyer. We had a lot of fun times. Prayers for her family to be strong!

I have fond memories of Bonnie from the Northern Illinois Skating Club. She was a driving force with Jeff in getting the club to hold a benefit for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. God Bless the family as they move forward with this loss. After all of these years I would still think of Bonnie although I didn't stay in touch. What a tremendous caring person she was with a laugh that would fill a room. Her heart was as big as her smile.

God Bless You all and Bonnie may God hold you in the palm of his hand and there must be a skating rink in heaven.

Much love and prayers for the Gilles family. Bonnie was my husband's cousin. When she came to visit her Micigan family it was always a fun time. We got reacquainted again through Facebook, I'm so glad we did. If she sensed I was feeling low she was quick to message me, wanting to help. She even suggested I come visit her and share some wine. Such a kind and loving person! She will be missed!

What a wonderful soul Bonnie had! I recall how she poured her heart into helping at the preschool in Rockford. She hosted a "pirate's day" at her home and took joy in all the kiddos. I got to see her in St. Louis when the girls were in Juniors along with my daughter. Rest in Peace, Bonnie. Your beauty lives on in those who love you.
